Hi. I was in bed last night quietly wishing for some more Westbrook Gose to arrive at my local beer store, when the the question occured to me, are there any non-Gose beers that use salt and that are also delicious? The wheat seems like a natural partner, but was curious if there are any examples of how salt was otherwise used. The thought was also probably nudged along because I was earlier having a Kostritzer with a very salty soft pretzel, and the two went together.

    Thanks

A friend of mine in college used to lightly salt his beers. Usually Boulevard Wheat, or even Budweiser. Actually was pretty decent. I definitely wish there were more Gose beers out there, the only ones I can readily get are kind of expensive.

my grandpa always salted his Millers. he seemed to love the stuff. never tried it myself but i suppose tossing a little salt in any beer to try it out won't kill anyone.

We did a salt beer called Digger, we added whole clams and lemon grass and Summer hops. Problem is when people asked about putting salt in it we said "like Gose" so often people expected sour more than salty. When we make it again we will be a lot more carefull about it. Gose lovers are a very strict bunch.

I always see people putting salt into Tecate here in my state. But this is just to make an otherwise terrible beer taste better. I never do this myself but a lot of people do it to poorly made lagers like Tecate and Corona.

I added a little salt to a rather poor pumpkin ale once and that seemed to vastly improve the taste!

Next time it's $2 PBR night at the local bowling spot, I'm bringing some salt.

I've definitely seen people salt macro lagers.

A new brewery in Denver called Former Future has a salted porter that tastes like caramel when it warms up. I love it, although when served very cool the salt seems to come through heavier. Warmth mellows it and makes the malt meld with it.

Thanks everyone. Never thought about self salting.

The only one mentioned that I have access to is the Fire Island one...and while I don't see them as a good brewer, I think I'll grab a single.

Tonight I will salt a Citra Mantra.

BFM produces a beer called La Douze, it is a Belgian Pale ale made with sea salt. Had it once at a BFM event. Very good, I recall the salt was clearly there and made a lot of the other flavors pop out on the tongue.

All beers have salt in them to an extent.

That said, I always pour salt in my Tecate when enjoying some Mexican food.
