Great beers. They just opened the Anchorage location this past weekend. I recommend checking it out for sure.

Percy's is a small shop on Front Street. not necessarily the largest bottle selection in town, but by far the most diverse, with some stuff you'll never expect to see (and sometimes things priced accordingly...)

If you're looking to drink beers while in Juneau, The Hangar is the best spot, with 25-ish handles, and a decent bottle selection. Very easy to locate, right on the waterfront on the North end of downtown in the big blue building.

McGivney's in the hotel across the street has a decent selection, and occasionally things that won't be on at the Hangar, but not necessarily anything out of the ordinary (think typical NW stuff like Ninkasi, Deschutes, Elysian, 10 Barrel, and now that distro has hit, usually some Balast Point stuff on)

The Alaskan is a great, dark hole in the wall that will likely have something interesting on that no one else in town will. However, the cleanliness of their lines is suspect, and every once in a while you'll get something that just doesn't taste right.

And, while not a spot to necessarily go to just have a beer, The Rookery has great food, and 5-6 handles, sometimes with something no one else in town will have.

Send me a BM with info when you're in town, and I'll try and swing down and buy you a pint.

Glacier Brewhouse is a good option. Ginger, Marx Brothers, and Simon & Seafort are good too and all within walking distance. Best to call for a reservation this time of year. Brewhouse has a nice selection of beers and always has a couple of big BA beers on tap - their eisbock and barleywine are exceptional! If you can't get a reservation or the wait is too long - slide into the bar area where the seating is first come, first served. On real busy nights, there are lurkers ready to pounce in this high stake game of musical chairs.

It's always worth to pay the extra $5 to get the halibut dish versus rockfish.

Also 49th State just opened their Anchorage location - food is expensive for what you get, but the novelty hasn't worn off on me yet. Nice selection of beers - IPL is nice and so is the Porter.

Marx bros is great but definitely requires a reservation. I always enjoy Simon & Seafort. Sit in the bar area and enjoy the view!

49th street = snow goose? If so, yeah the views from the deck are amazing. Terrible beer, great deck.

Snow Goose sold out to 49th State in December. 49th State in Healy will continue to be seasonal while the Anchorage location (which opened 7/4 after extensive renovations) will be year round. The head Brewer for SG stayed on with 49th-ANC. While some of the SG flag ships left something to be desired, many of the seasonal and one-offs were excellent - especially the barleywine. Some of the SG recipes will live on under 49th including the BW.

Juneau we have booked excursions all day. Tram, seaplane. For lunch we are doing a salmon bake. Also, Internet is very difficult to get up here.

    Good information on this post!

I'll be staying in ANC for 6 weeks for work and was wondering if anyone is down for bottle shares or trades? I saw the culmination festival going on the 20th of August. Anyone else going? 130 is a bit steep and not much info but the line up looks amazing!

Just out of curiosity, how do they know you've got bottles with you? Do they X-Ray/scan the luggage going on board? If you wanted to have a couple in your room, what's stopping you?

I think that's exactly what they do.

When you get on the ship, the porters take your luggage, which is later delivered to your state room. It usually takes a few hours, during which time they check your luggage for dangerous materials, contraband, etc. In some instances, they'll simply hold your beer/wine/booze until you exit the ship. On the last ship we were on, we were allowed to pay a "corkage fee" to obtain the wine I brought aboard, and have it served at dinner (otherwise, it would have been given back to us after the cruise).

It's the same deal with offshore excursions. You have to go through security and have your possessions scanned when you return from shore. If you bring back any alcohol, they take it from you and hold it till the end of the cruise. It's pretty hard to bring any alcohol on board without at least paying a "corkage fee" to have it opened on board.
