Ipswich oatmeal stout. Labeled as 7% here, but it's a touch under.

There are thin high abv stouts and there are lower abv stouts with a fuller mouthfeel.

I mean I'm always open to try new beers, but not when I know I'll be disappointed. Thin stouts are the worst to me, and anything under 7% is going to be thin. Maybe someone can refer me to a thicker 7% stout?

You're definitely right about the thin high ABV stouts, and after I try them I don't get them again. You do have a better chance at getting a thicker stout when you go high abv than you do when you go low abv, though.

If by "American Stout" you are referring to the beers classified as such on this site, then - Kalamazoo.
If you mean stouts made in America, then - Left Hand Milk Stout and Central Waters Mudpuppy Porter.

What - you want your straw to stand up in it or something? Maybe you just have developed a taste for beers which are an underattenuated mess...

I don't see it get much love, but i think Avery Out of Bounds Stout is fantastic.

Rogue Shakespeare was a pleasant surprise in both the mouthfeel and taste. I expected it to be lackluster due to the abv, but ended up really enjoying it. Recommend giving it a shot.

I mean, let's not get crazy. But if stouts like DBH, reg huna, assassin, bcbs, etc are underattenuated messes then yea I guess I have.

Thanks for the recommendation! I went and looked it up and apparently rated it some time ago. So I stand corrected, I have had under 7% stouts. I don't really remember how it was but I gave it a 3.75. Maybe I'll have to revisit it.

Barney Flats is a great one if you're talking readily available American brewed stouts.

Sierra Nevada's stout is a fantastic hoppy stout, and quite strong at 5.6%. I think it's a classic American beer...
