The Steigern
Crafted at Bourgeois Pig in Lawrence, Kan.
Since ‘radler’ is a Bavarian word for ‘cyclist,’ it seemed appropriate to name this souped-up cocktail featuring the beer-lemonade mix after a German slang term for ‘doper.’ At Bourgeois Pig, we paired the ginger-lemon radler from nearby Boulevard Brewing Co. with a splash of botanical gin and elderflower liqueur. Boulevard’s version is not as fizzy as a Stiegl Radler, but it’s still sweet enough to work as a topper.
4 oz Boulevard Brewing Co. Ginger-Lemon Radler (or another radler, like Stiegl Radler or Point Coast Radler)
1 1/2 oz Uncle Val’s Botanical Gin
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
3/4 oz St. Germain elderflower liqueur
Fill a Collins glass with ice. Add the gin, lemon juice and St. Germain. Stir in the glass, and top with radler to finish. Garnish with fresh lemon balm or mint and a lemon flag. ■
