Yuengling Settles Clean Water Act Violation

As part of a settlement regarding Clean Water Act violations at its two breweries in Pottsville, Pa., D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc. has agreed to pay a $2.8 million penalty. It will also spend about $7 million to implement an environmental management system. The violations included the disposal of pollutants into the municipal wastewater treatment plant.

Hitachino Nest Opening Restaurant in San Francisco

Kiuchi Brewery, brewers of Hitachino Nest Beer, will open an izakaya, or Japanese gastropub, in San Francisco’s Tendernob neighborhood this summer. Hitachino Beer & Wagyu, the company’s first location outside of Japan, will feature 10 exclusive Hitachino Nest beers on tap, Kiuchi sake, Wagyu beef dishes, and pickled bar snacks.

Flying Fish Lands in Philly’s Historic Brewerytown

This fall, New Jersey’s Flying Fish Brewing Co. will open Flying Fish Crafthouse, a 191-seat restaurant in The Fairmount @ Brewerytown, a rental complex in Philadelphia’s Brewerytown neighborhood. The historic district earned its name from the dense concentration of breweries operating in this area along the Schuylkill River during the city’s brewing heyday.

Brooklyn Brewery Launches Record Label

On July 7, Brooklyn Brewery celebrated the launch of Brooklyn Brewery Records in London with a performance by two-piece British rock band The Graveltones. The label’s first release, pressed onto emerald green vinyl, is a live recording of the band’s October 31 performance at The Lexington in London.
