750 mL bottle purchased at the brewery in the general store about a month or so ago, unknown brewing/bottling date, poured into a Mad Fox snifter and drank over 30 minutes while sharing with my wife
A: 2/3 - deep amber-brown coloration with some maroon tinged on the margins; initial fizzy 1-2 finger head on pour dissipates very quickly to almost nothing (fastest loss of head that I've seen on a beer...almost soda-like); small bubbles remain detectable; low alcohol legs
S: 5/12 - really strange and unfortunately mostly unpleasant admixture of smells - acetone, plastic, wet cardboard, roasted brown malt and alcohol
T: 9/20 - on the front of the tongue, there is an up-front sweetness that I personally find cloying; the wild ale qualities start to then come into play but, for me, it's that same burnt plastic and artificial flavoring; finishes sweet with some alcohol burn on the way down; no hop flavors
M: 3/5 - low body, fizzy carbonation but improved by the alcohol
O: 5/10 - I really wanted to like this and let me stress that I think that it's outstanding that Franklin's, which may be the most underrated brewery in the DMV, is expanding its sour program but unfortunately this is a huge whiff; regardless, I'll continue to support what they are doing and, with time, I suspect that they'll start nailing their sours

Shared by Michael, keep trying, this wasn't the one but you'll get there.
I'm a huge fan of Franklin's but this beer was just a let down. Beer is brown with a haze, thin tan head, small bubbles, moderate to low carbonation, low retention, looks fine.
Aroma is odd, a little metallic, mildly lactic, nutty? Some sulfur, doesn't smell too off but it is not inviting.
Beer is thin and metallic with an unfortunate aftertaste. Beer has this mild roasty bitterness at the back and a really dry finish. Not a repeat for me.

From 03/09/12 notes. Bottled shared by yourefragile; thanks Michael.
a - Pours a dark amber color with one inch of off white head and light carbonation evident.
s - Smells of horrid sour fruits and burning plastic. Really bad and not much going on; not sure what the hell happened here.
t - Tastes way better better then the nose. Tastes of fruity malts, sour fruits, floral notes, and earthy notes.
m - Medium body and low carbonation. A little bit undercarbonated.
o - Overall not a great beer. While the taste is decent, the nose is awful, which just hurts it so much. Wouldn't seek it out again.

Thanks to yourefragile for sharing this one. Served in a SAVOR wine glass.
Pours a clear amber brown with a thin white head and no real lacing. The nose is really bad. There is a heavy plastic note along with some musty earth. The plastic is really hard to get past. From there the flavor gets a bit better with some mild sourness and a light cherry presence. A touch of earth as well. The plastic is still in the background. Overall, the nose is just far too bad and it permeates the rest of the beer. Hopefully this was just a bad bottle.

750 mL bottle purchased at the anniversary party.
Holy hell this smells horrible. Not like, meh, this is too sour for me but why the hell does this smell like plastic, dog crap, cancer and green apple. Seriously, the aroma is sub 1.0. This smells horrible. Did I mention it is horrible?
Moving on.
Pours a clouded ruby brown with a thin tan head. Flavor is amazingly not repulsive. Sort of Flanders Red-y, dry in the start and finish with a brief flourish of ripe, green fruit in the middle of the palate. Finish is uncomfortably dry and cardboardy. Medium thick, lightly carbonated body with a thin finish.
More experiments from Franklins are always welcome but this was like what I imagine Heavy Seas trying to make a sour beer tastes like.
