Had this at The Bruery Tasting Room alongside other Smoking Wood variants (Blueberry, Mole). This was my favorite- reminded me of Goose Bourbon County Coffee. Cold-brew coffee, roastiness, toasted beans, some sugar... beautiful.

On-tap at the brewery in Placentia. Served in a tulip.

Seal brown, opaque body with a buff color crescent of foam around the rim. Vague retention, though the bubbles linger. No lacing or even legs.

Aroma is well integrated, and surprisingly light. Tobacco, roast malt, coffee, cocoa, butterscotch, and notes from their signature yeast strain.

Sweet and deeply malty - chocolate, cherry, brown bread, loam, vanilla, and light smoke on the palate. A little tart in the finish - bright and fruity with a final whisper of ash.

Medium-bodied, creamy, warming, but not hot (even at 13%!). Mellow tannins, no astringency.

Smoke and coffee are both present but very subdued - the well balanced stout-like base beer is unique, potent, and a treat on its own though, which saves the overall impression.

Pours dark and rich with tiny tan head. Black oil like. No lacing.

Nose features rich roasted mocha and some chocolate covered nuttiness.

Taste is similar. Was expecting more smoke but there is a refined charred edge flavor to the grain and coffee towards the end. Rich dark chocolate and coffee flavors mask the alcohol well. Incredibly smooth with no carbonation. Dangerously drinkable at the ABV, seriously.

Coffee, vanilla, some oak, little bit of leather, some smoke and well balanced, a huge improvement over the base beer.
