Partridge in a Pear Tree is the first in the 12 Days/Years of Christmas Series. Brewed in the style of a Belgian-style Dark Strong Ale, brewed with our brewery-made dark candi sugar, Munich and Vienna malts. Dark brown in color, fruity and complex with a rich malt backbone. This is a simple yet immensely complex beer meant to be savored and shared with friends and family.

Dark, brown color. Huge, off-white head. Caramel malt, raisins, dark fruits, candy sugar, and Belgian yeasts are in the aroma. The same notes follow into taste. A classic Belgian quad.

Copenhagen 22/1 2026. 37,5 cl heavy glass bottle from DrikBeer webshop. Green label
In The Bruery’s usual design.
Pours clear dark mahogany with a mid-sized off-white head. A bit bubbly. Settles as thin patch of foam floating in the middle of the glass. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is intense with a strong odor of fermented dark fruit and alcohol mingling with tart notes and a whiff of perfume. Dark plums with a hint of decay, prunes and raisins. Dark sweet alcohol.?remind me of my mother in law’s Romtopf.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, almost flat texture.
Flavor is intense with a strong boozy sweetness followed by a more moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is lightly bitter with a noticeable sweet undertone. Finish is semi-dry.
Sweet, dark and boozy take on a Quadruple.

First half poured a clear deep cherry mahogany with a solid two finger foamy tan collar that faded slowly with strands of lacing. The nose is heavenly; bold harvest fruits, figs, vanilla, ginger and cloves. Outstanding. The spicy smells intensify as it warms. The yeast and fruity flavor mirrors the nose briefly before the spices dominate. The mouthfeel is medium bodied initially then there is a heavy character to the spices that takes over and lingers beyond my expectations. The back half of the 12oz bottle poured as clear as the first. The 11.3% ABV is mostly hidden; a slight warmth builds up as you consider it. A good start to the Bruery’s Twelve Days of Christmas box. Merry Christmas!!

Partridge In A Pear Tree pours a dark brown with a small head. The aroma is dark and sweet, lots of lovely, dark sugary cinnamon, and dark raisins. The flavor is slightly lighter, sweet, with notes of dark fruits, raisins, and cinnamon. Good feel. Overall, a very approachable quad, with a sweeter, sugary character.

Beautiful pour and color. Honey brown, lots of carbonation. Nice tan head that slowly dissipates, leaving some lacing.
Sweet sweet nose. Lots of fruit coming through.
Delicious. The taste is not nearly as sweet as the nose. Pear, other fruity flavors all blend together in an excellent beer.
This is excellent. And from this brewery, it is even reasonably priced!

No brewery takes Christmas as seriously as The Bruery. And I'm glad they do. These smaller bottles with tops are preferred as a practical matter. Reviewing and revisiting their 12 Days of Christmas series over these many years is the most concentrated work I can remember for any brewer. But it is worth it !
My first Partridge, I drank it with friends before going to a Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols. So it was as complete an evening as could be imagined. Partridge, of course, accompanied desserts of chocolates and a decadent cream puff with dark fruits. Since the wine drinkers were more focussed on the desserts, the Partridge was mostly mine to enjoy. While the pairing probably could not be improved, next year Partridge's herbs and seasonal spices could be lighter... particularly for those like me how are not so good at cellaring. As for the rest of reviewing Tree's elements, they were close to perfection. Happy Holidays (including The Epiphany!)

From a bottle, poured into a balloon glass. Pours a dark red brown with pronounced effervescence and a short- lived white cap. Smells sweet, belgiany, and spicy. Notes of dark fruit. The flavor is fruity and sweet with a subtle belgiany flavor and light spices. Medium-full bodied and very smooth. Easy drinking at 11%.

750ml bottle at share. Dark brown pour with a small bubbly head. Aroma and taste reveal chocolate, plums, and sweet malts. Finishes with light savory notes and plenty of warmth.

Name: Partridge in a Pear Tree
Brewery: The Brurey
Location: Placentia, CA
Style: Belgian Quad
ABV: 11.3%
Date: 2020
I am drinking Partridge in a Pear Tree today using a Chalice glass. This beer is 3 years old. Served it at 50 degrees. The pour created a dense, moussy, two-fingered, light tan head with average retention. The color is dark brown, with mahogany hues, charting around SRM 22. The beer is semi-opaque. The dissipation left lacing on the glass. The appearance is average for this style.
The initial aromas are Christmas spices, candied orange, bready, and phenolic. Nosing the glass again, I detect cherries, plums, pepper, caramel, floral esters, and a light herbal. Other faint aromas are raisin, toasted malts, cloves, and vanilla. A complex nose on this beer.
The flavors are Christmas spice of nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and allspice. The malty base is a toasted bread crust with a malty sweetness. I also taste vanilla, light herbal, white pepper, phenolic, dried plums, raisins, orange, floral esters, and dried cherries.
The mouthfeel is creamy and finishes with some alcohol warming. The body is medium, with high carbonation.
I am impressed with this quad. It was balanced with loads of flavors. I am going to try to get all twelve at some time. I have five of them so far; a couple are barrel-aged. Another delightful beer from the Brurey.

A: Poured into a snifter to a deep brown beer which is nearly black. The beer is topped by a dense and slightly rocky finger and a half of tan head which fads slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass
S: Smells like a very traditional Belgian quad. dark fruits, hints of cherries, caramel, spicy yeast and candi sugar
T: Taste is dark fruits and cherries up front with some nice mulling spice notes from the yeast, a touch of caramel, and bready malts as well with some sugary sweetness. On the finish there's more dark fruits and mulling spices with some more caramel, cherries, and dark fruits.
M: This beer has a body which is on the heavier side of medium and slightly syrupy. Carbonation is effervescent and adequate for the style while the beer has a drying finish due to the ABV.
