Liberty Stoutwich was first brewed for our anniversary celebration in 2014 and quickly became a festival favorite. Inspired by Fluffernutter, this imperial stout was aged in bourbon barrels with vegan marshmallows, Tahitian vanilla beans, peanut flour, and salt, resulting in a gooey and brashly decadent treat.

Black color. Thin, beige head. Dark chocolate, bourbon, peanuts, and marshmallows in the aroma. Moderately sweet, rich, and heavy. Warming alcohol at the end. Easy to drink considering the ABV.

Black Tuesday - Liberty Stoutwich pours black, with no head. The aroma is filled with vanilla peanut, and deep roasted cereal. The flavor is sweet, marshmallow notes hit first, then creamy vanilla, with hints of peanuts. Good feel. Overall, a sweeter stout, big, the alcohol is hidden, packed with flavors, and overall fantastic.

Into a tulip glass. Pours an inky black with little head. Smells roasty, boozy, nutty, and vanilla. Slightly salty too. Tastes nutty, salty, roasty, and caramel. Full bodied and warming.

750 ml bottle, 2021 edition, bottled 07/29/21. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan cola-like head that fizzled away pretty quickly. Not much lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like marshmallows, vanilla, salted peanuts, roasted malt and some bourbon. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some burnt/charred malt, dark bread, earthy and caramel flavors. I was expecting this one to taste sweeter, but it's well balanced between all the flavors. With that being said it does get sweeter tasting as it warms. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's slick and syrupy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a pretty good brew, definitely worth trying if you get the chance!

Not too many of the unique Bruery offerings make it here. They have some year round brews but I'm always looking for their special stouts. Was able to get Liberty Stoutwich online and it did not disappoint.

Marshmallow forward with a sweet and boozy vanilla profile. The barrel is there but blended well to create a balanced dessert stout. Body is fluffy and one of the better marshmallow stouts. Peanut flour is missing but great nonetheless.

Beer Name: BT Liberty Stoutwich
Brewery: The Bruery
Location: Placentia, CA
Style: Barrel Aged Imperial Stout
ABV: 18.3%
Date: 2021

I am enjoying a Liberty Stoutwich from The Bruery, served in a pint glass at 42 degrees. The beer has a creamy, frothy, and dense two-fingered dark brown head with above-average retention. It is opaque with a dark brown, nearly black color, measuring around 38 on the color chart. As the head dissipates, it leaves lots of chunky lacing on the sides of the glass. The beer's appearance is above average for its style, especially with a high alcohol content.

On the nose, I first smell bourbon-soaked, freshly made marshmallows covered in a nutty chocolate dip. Nosing the glass again, I detect medium-roasted coffee, caramel, char, oak, freshly baked dark bread, dark-roasted malts, molasses, raisins, figs, toffee, and a light anise aroma. I loved the colossal dessert aromas coming off the glass.

The beer's flavors start with bourbon-soaked marshmallows covered in nutty dark chocolate. They develop into caramel, molasses, medium-roasted malts, toffee, raisins, oak, and char. Sipping the beer again, I taste undertones of floral, earthiness, dark roasted bread crust, and creaminess.
The beer is creamy and chewy, finishing creamy and smooth for the mouthfeel. It has a heavy body with medium-low carbonation.
The beer is a juggernaut of imperial dessert stout with rich, luxurious flavors that tantalize the palate with every sip. We enjoyed this beer after a family dinner, great conversations, and fantastic beer. I loved this beer!

Bottled on 9/22/2020; consumed on 9/13/2023

Pours with brownish edges sitting in the glass with a matte-black body, sporting a short-lived finger of khaki-hued foam returning to a blank void with little cap, collar, or lacing to speak of.

Aromas of malted milk chocolate sport a subtle salt inflection, with accents of dusty peanut butter meeting oaky char as hints of marshmallow cross the back end and malt roast persists.

Taste offers burnt vanilla and a creamy peanut butter contrast upfront, leaving charry coffee roast residuals into edges of salinity and marshmallow over the mid-palate; a broad barrel inflection progresses as tinges of peanut butter persist and fade alongside subtle dark chocolate through the back end of the profile.

Mouthfeel brings a body on the lighter end of medium and minimal carbonation; soft char backing cedes to rampant barrel heat through the mid-palate, warming into the back end as semi-slick textures coat and a stable creaminess lingers past the finish.

Overwrought with boozy wafts, a gentle richness emerges and intermingles with pangs of malt char and a subtle barrel inflection as sweeter aspects battle an imposing barrel structure.

This one pours a syrupy looking dark black color, with no head or lacing.

This smells like caramel, peanut butter, vanilla, milk chocolate, and raisin.

Black Tuesday is a beer that tends to have a lot of nice barrel character. However, unfortunately, the excessive pastry tsunami of this just washes away any interesting barrel or base stout character. There’s some tasty and very sweet flavors, but it’s pretty heavy handed and not at all subtle. Of course, you could argue that it’s ridiculous to shoot for subtlety in a Black Tuesday variant, but maybe I’m an idiot.

This is thick, syrupy, and not very boozy. It’s certainly a slow sipper, due to the intensity and just deadening flavors.

This wasn’t awful by any means, but still pretty overwhelming.

A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer which is topped by a finger of dense and slightly rocky tan head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of peanuts, bourbon barrels, chocolate, roasted malts, and a hint of coffee
T: Taste is vanilla and peanuts up front with some hints of marshmallows, bourbon barrels, molasses, roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. On the finish there's more vanilla, peanuts, marshmallows, bourbon barrels, molasses, and roasted malts.
M: This beer has a body which is on the heavier side of medium. Carbonation is on the low end but it's adequate for the style while the beer has a drying finish due to the ABV.
O: Overall this was really good. The adjuncts blended well with the base beer in a pleasant way while this drank really well for the ABV.
