Belgian-Style Table Beer with Thai Basil and Lemongrass
Bonne nuit, mes amis! We made this Belgian-style table beer just for you. Crafted in the traditional style, La Petite Provision is easy-drinking and full of flavor thanks to additions of Thai basil and lemongrass to the brew. Herbal, floral, and slightly sweet, this one’s best enjoyed with a candlelit dinner.

This beer has very little body and is almost watery. With a lot of imagination, you might be able to taste a little Thai basil and lemongrass. The high carbonation is pleasant. Maybe this beer would be good on a very hot day with some spicy Thai food, but there are better choices. The very good rating is too generous. I would call it "okay."

16 oz can. Pours clear gold with a medium white head that disappears quickly. Aroma: Pretty faint, some yeast and spice, white pepper. Taste: Starts sweet, finish is citrus, spice, slight grass. Dry, nice fine carbonation.

Packaged on 2/27/2024 - enjoyed on 3/23/2024 - poured from a pint can into a Unibroue tulip.
Nearly clear aureolin liquid supports a finger of cosmic latte soft peaks. Thick, crenellated lacing; good retention.
Crackery/biscuity malt along with some floral notes (orange blossom, jasmine, etc.) and a touch of citrus and esters. Mild and inviting.
Crisp palate entry, malt-forward with some grassy hops accentuated by the faintly peppery/licorice flavors contributed by the basil. Mild even bitterness, fairly dry finish, with hints of vanilla wafer in the aftertaste. Oddly, my first impression was of lager yeast.
Quite active carbonation suggests a little more body than is actually present. Refreshing and likely better with spicy food than on its own.
Judicious use of herbs (which I think they've used before in Tradewinds Tripel and maybe some variants of Saison de Lente?) - a pleasant easy-drinker, though I'm left desiring more yeast character for the style.

pours very pale yellow with 1.5 finger very short lived white, fairly loose head. Leaves a bit of lacing. Very subtle smell; probably would not identify basil and lemon grass if the can did not claim it. A bit more identifiable in the taste. Overall a fairly decent match with the can description; enjoy it with a meal. Also, fairly true to the identified style.

16oz can. Poured out a slightly cloudy, golden yellow color with a small, off-white head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of tart fruitiness, caramel and bread crust. Sweet caramel and biscuity taste with tart lemon and tangy orange.
