Was lucky enough to get this one and a bunch of other good stuff from Sam. Fulton’s website description for this was “OVERCOME BY THIRST ONLY THEN TO DISCOVER THE CHILL CITY CHUGGER. A beer that tastes like...wait for it... beer.”

Poured a pale yellow clear color with two fingers of frothy-to-fizzy white head. Could see plenty of bubbles coming up from the bottom and sides of the glass. Decent spotty lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 3.75)

Smelled bug spray, corn, green grape, kiwi, pear, apple, hay, grass and earthy grain. Not as good from the can. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste was not nearly as good as the nose. In order got corn, green grape, kiwi, pear, apple, bug spray, hints of black pepper, sourdough bread, hay, grass and earthy grain. (Taste - 3.50)

Light body. Thin texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Clean, crisp finish. (Feel - 4.00)

I liked this. I slightly underrated it overall, but I’d have it again for sure. (Overall - 3.75)

Very solid for an American lager. Highly recommend for the style. Body and carbonation excellent. It has a balanced flavor.

 

 

It seems like the branding has gotten a little more sophisticated as the can now says Chill City Golden Lager. Anyway, this is an excellent Helles with a great balance of pils malt honey and bready flavors coupled with a light herbal-floral hop note with soft subtle countering bitterness. Body is nice and light with easy drinkability. Nice helles lager Fulton!!

Poured a very clear light pale gold with a vibrant white foam head. Scent is most expected lager but hints of floral/herbal zest are evident providing some welcome complexity. Taste is easy drinking but pretty generic lager with a very light feel. Overall the kind of brew I would enjoy in a baseball stand or a hot summer picnic.

Appearance: Yellow-hued body, clear. A bit bubbly. An inch of white foam up top steadily settles.

Smell: A nominal nose yielding just a touch of grainy bread dough and a teensy flash of bright lemon.

Taste: Minimally malty. Thin whispers of a bready barley with a meager sweetness. A small, wee drop of lemon that fades amidst a hint of bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: A bare bones, light-leaning but easy-drinking lager.

12oz can. Poured out a clear, straw-yellow color with a small, fizzy, white head of foam. It left minimal lacing on the glass. It smelled of bread crust, caramel and a light citrus nose. Sweet caramel and bready malt taste with a mild bitterness.

From a 12oz can:

Appearance: Clear pale yellow, ok head.

Smell: Wet corn.

Taste: Mild corny sweetness, light & fizzy feel.

Overall: I wanted a lighter beer but also to support a local brewery, so tried a 12 pack of Chill City Chugger from Fulton. It's a decent light beer, no off flavors and easily drinkable while watching football or hanging out.

L: Pours slightly pale straw light yellow w a thin white head to edge foam, low carbo, random light lacing.
S: Light malts, grains, a hint of honey, esters.
T: Lightly sweet malts, pear, moderately sweet overall, a hint of bread, lightly grassy, a touch of corn.
F: Clean, low carbo med-bodied feel w a fairly clean med-fast finish w no aftertaste.
O: A decent American Lager that is easy drinking, crushable and refreshing. It is good in its style.

A little more bitter than I thought it would be. Pretty Average

 

Chill City Chugger pours a slightly hazy, golden color, with a small, but long lasting, lacing head. Aroma has lots of bright grain, chemically as well. Flavor is first, very chemically, very sweet, sugary, but finishes with a mellow, bright grain flavor. Good feel to this one. Overall, a little too sweet, very nice aftertaste, there is a lot of flavor with this one.

Pours a pale golden color with a white head. Smell is pale malts,bread corn and grassy hops . Taste follows nose honey grassy with just enough hop flavor. A sweet=eat and crisp mouth feel very quenchable and 4% ABV .

Agreed with the previous poster saying that the beer taste like beer. Would chug this down If I had a 24 pack.

12 oz can, no visible date.

Pale gold color with a tall, fluffy white head. Very pleasant bready, honey-like malt aroma with light floral hops. Flavor follows suit with everything in perfect balance. Clean and easy to drink. Medium-light bodied, it doesn't feel thin at all for a 4% beer.

My first Minnesota beer is a winner! Really digging this one, I could have several in one sitting. Low alcohol, full-flavored. Thanks, Chaz!

12oz can with a date, FRESH! But not CHEAP!

I love the name and the blurb on the back: it's marketing that doesn't make me want to barf. A refreshing change of pace; the beer, too. Clear and bubbly lemon-gold, with a decent amount of head sticking around. I like how much flavor is packed into the 4%. There is a slight dirty corn-water aspect to it, but nothing unlike/worse than a budweiser (or etc.) - this is actually cleaner. I was impatient and popped a warm one to enjoy while watching the Twins get their asses kicked, and it was surprisingly good while warm. That's the best testament to this beer's quality

Nothing overly impressive, just a clean and clear beer. Perfect 4th of July and/or lawnmower beer

Pale golden in color topped with an off-white head. Good lacing, and average duration for the head.

The nose is neutral. Lightly malty, and an even lighter hop profile...

On first sip it’s crisp and semi-sweet. Lighter in body (perfect for the style), and fairy gently carbonated — just enough to offer a bit of briskness on the palate.

Malt character is on par for the style, and for the adjuncts there’s likely a blend of corn and oat (the oat is a guess on my part.). It’s not an overly complex beer, nor is it meant to be.

Very easy drinking.

Any way you slice it, Fulton’s effort to craft a “North American Industrial Lager” has been successful, and I’m sure there’s a need for this one beyond just having a light, pale lager to add to their sampler pack. This one could go toe to toe with any large volume pale American, light lager, and it’s worth throwing a six pack in your ‘fridge or cooler, the next time you go camping.

Aroma: Moderate and smooth aromas of pale German cracker, honey, bread, and pale malts. Smooth, earthy, and honey-like. (4.25)

Flavor: The flavor follows the nose with smooth flavors of German cracker, bread, and earthy honey flavors. Moderate yeast, slightly flowery, but then smooth honey on the finish. (4.25)

Feel: Medium to light bodied. Moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth and leans slightly sweet. (4.25)


Compared to Bud Light 5/3/21: Pours a lighter and brighter color. Stronger aromas. More German malts, honey, and sweeter. Less adjuncts. Winner: Chill City

Compared to Wonderstuff: Similar, but slightly more malty and less dry yeast and salty bitterness.

Overall: This is a fantastic pale lager. Listed as an American Lager, but it drinks with so much more! It has smooth German bread and honey flavors. Even some flower. Drinks more like a German Helles lager. For only 4% it's remarkable. I didn't know what I was getting into, but a pleasant surprise. (Final Rating: 4.24)
