Imagine a spring fed swimming hole with a waterwheel that's been there for over a century. The feeling that beauty is anywhere, is captured in our new wheat beer. Soft coating mouthfeel with hints of orange, white pepper and banana that is perfectly bold. Adventure has the most unexpected rewards when you live life Free Wheelin

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. Canned November 2/25. My 12th beer from the Baysville, Ontario brewery, and 3rd for 2026. Adamantly adored by Gracie the cat...

473ml can served cold into a weizen glass. LCBO purchase.
Appearance - Very rich golden color with more amber in it than any other color. A loose finger of head is poured and fizzles away fairly quickly.
Smell - Loads of banana with some bready aspects as well, akin to a buttered banana bread with richness. Intense aroma.
Taste - Banana with some clove, a touch of of citrus. Good intensity of flavor. Maybe a touch more watery in the aftertaste than I'd like. Elements of bubblegum too.
Mouthfeel - Sticks to the tastebuds but otherwise watery, doesn't have that magic that the German hefes have. Carbonation a bit low.
Overall - Perfectly acceptable wheat beer with good flavor and aroma, just wouldn't prefer to most of the German greats.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Feb 11 2025 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a lightly hazed orange-amber colour, boasting more than an inch of sudsy, foamy white head with decent retention. A little over five minutes later, a tight collar is left surrounding a thin cap, with a meandering coat of lace around the perimeter of the glass; looks fine so far. Wheaty, spicy aroma reminiscent of a Belgian wit - I'm sensing white pepper, bready malts, banana esters and orange zest, with hints of bubble gum and coriander.
Not a bad little wheat ale, though the nose is more impressive than the flavours. There's lots of wheaty, bready malt flavour to be had, with ripe banana also figuring in strongly, resulting in a banana bread vibe that I rather like. Suggestions of orange peel, bruised apples, white pepper, bubble gum and coriander crop up on the back end, concluding with a wheaty, slightly yeasty, spicy-sweet aftertaste that lasts for a second or two before drying off. Medium in body, with moderate carbonation that briskly agitates the surface of the palate; smooth, satisfying mouthfeel that, along with drinkability, may be this wheat ale's strongest asset.
Final Grade: 3.71, a B grade. It's certainly witbier-adjacent, but I cannot confidently place Free Wheelin' within that style - after all, neither coriander nor citrus peel are listed as ingredients. Lake of Bays is generally good at disclosing the details of their recipes, so I'm led to assume that the spicy & citrusy characteristics of this wheat ale are derived entirely from the yeast and/or hops. If you enjoy beers like Shock Top or Blue Moon, this is a slightly superior Canadian alternative to consider during the sweltering summer months ahead. Fans of banana ester-heavy hefeweizens might also appreciate this.
