this is remarkable beer, perhaps the best ive had from this impressive brewery and really a striking example of the style, as good as it gets anywhere, not just in the states, which is really saying something, and this hits all the key elements for me, big dark grain profile with plenty of roast but tame bitterness, light in body but big in flavor, malt driven obviously but absolutely crackling dry, and so lively in texture from the keg, i really loved this and cant wait to drink it again, good enough to have come from germany, for real. i love that this is actually black or darn near it, not one of those amber takes, this pushes nice and deep, which i think is essential, even if a lot of them are quite a bit lighter, i love the roast this brings, and its pretty to look at, high shine, just faintly bronze edges, high tan head from the tap, lots and lots of bubbles, right on for me in this style. aroma starts subtle, the roast, a dryness, coal, dark cocoa powder, old wood to me, nice lager yeast evident, german for sure, mellow almost cola character, the flavor is more open, more deep, more grain layers behind just the dark stuff, and its amazing how low bitterness it is at this color, very cool. very subtle char, licorice, and chocolate yet without being rich or in any way decadent or indulgent like that, it feels polished but also very blue collar, very classic and unpretentious, tradition, just that its better than many of the iconic examples of the style, at least by the time they get to the states, and the texture is the best part of it, effervescent, dry, with lager yeast flavor at the swallow, almost no recall at all, light body for the color but soft to me and without feeling thin in any way. cool mix of grains in here, brilliantly composed down to the water chemistry and all it seems, very detail oriented product, of the finest quality, cant believe how dry and quick it is, absolutely loved it!

16 oz. can from Trader Joe's in Tustin, CA. Pours a crystal clear dark brown with a thick, foamy tan head. Charred and toasted malt aromas. The aroma follows into the taste with a nice dry, charred malt flavor, cocoa powder and dark chocolate. There's very little sweetness here which is good as it lets the clean, dry malt flavor come through. The bitterness seems to be more from the charred malt than any hops, although I'm sure there are some in there. The body is medium-light but not really watery. Finishes with an excellent dry, charred wood and roasted coffee taste and feel on the tongue and a bit of cocoa and dark chocolate floating around the mouth. Great black lager in the Schwarzbier style.

Pours almost jet black with tall tan head of medium to thick body and decently long longevity. Good amount of lacing. No real bitterness. Some malty/dark chocolate : hints of coffee-goodness on the smell and taste. Medium body with carbonation on the mild side. Overall a quite nice lager for those of us who like dark ales/ stouts/ porters

Packaged September 16th, enjoyed on October 12th, 2025 - poured from a pint can into my Moonlight willibecher.

Opaque sepia liquid beneath a light fawn cap. Fine sandy lacing; decent retention.

Toasted brown bread aroma with a gentle nuttiness.

Earthy, light roast malt on the palate with some herbal hop flavors. Mild astringency and moderate bitterness. Low ashy smoke around the edges. Fairly dry finish with brown bread and toasted nuts returning in the aftertaste.

Medium-light bodied with forward carbonation.

Well crafted, surprisingly refreshing, if somewhat generic/subtle take on the style.

From Beer Drop, canned May 2nd 2025.

Pours a dark brown with hues of red, off white head of foam that shrinks quickly. Some lacing.

Smell is of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt with some sweet notes.

Taste is dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, hints of smoke. Very tasty.

Medium bodied with adequate carbonation, I would drink this again.

500ml at the brewery.

Dark, slight translucence, medium head. Smell is roasty, bread yeast, dark toast. Taste is moderate sweet, nutty, roast with some lean toward bitterness, almost a creaminess. Mouthfeel is light and smooth, almost airy. This is very good.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated 05/06/24 to a Nonic at 42F.
The body is, surprise, black. In the sun some edges pass light in a brown hue. The head is freaking amazing..light brown, puffy, creamy, mountainous terrain. It does fade after a few minutes and laces in rings.
The aroma is mild. Malty, mostly Malaird caramel.
The flavor is dark chocolate and coffee, just like I read on the can after noting this. Although there is a slight sweetness in the front, overall this is a dry beer. There is some hop character peaking through all that chocolate goodness also.
The mouthfeel is medium- light..
An impressive beer to look at, a pretty good taster too.

Canned 5/6/24. “Prost!” stamped on the bottom of the can

I’ve had this one marked as a want for nearly 3 years and had no idea about that until I picked it up on a whim at Half Time the other day. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Enegren so I’m excited to try this one. Let’s dive right in

Pours a very dark reddish brown with 3 fingers of creamy light tan head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves patchy lacing

The nose has a bright acidity but it’s in no way aggressive. I’m picking up on aromas of cocoa powder, raisin, medium roast coffee, burnt caramel, leafy hops, black cherry, light toffee, and dark toast

It’s more of the same in taste and that’s fine by me. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting milk chocolate, dark bread, raisin, sweetened coffee, vanilla, toffee, light leafy hops, and burnt caramel. The swallow brings notes of dark toast, black cherry, raisin, medium roast coffee, toffee, herbal hops, cocoa powder, and light black pepper

A light medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes neutral and nicely balanced

This is a damn good Schwarzbier. I need to try more from Enegren

Purchased as part of the Untappd x Enegren mixed 12 pack! It pours a velvety smooth deep oxblood blackish red. Very dense head. Very faint hint of roasted malt. Slightly smoky and coffee flavor. Lush mouthfeel with a dry finish. Overall, excellent!
