Blend of Bourbon Barrel-aged and dry-hopped Barleywines. We pulled a portion of last year’s release and aged it in Seven Year Buffalo Trace Bourbon Barrels for close to a year. For the fresh component, we brewed a high-gravity barleywine with a single malt, British Chevalier, and boiled it all day to develop its dark color and unique, malty character. After fermentation we dry-hopped the fresh batch with Simcoe, Citra, and Chinook. The resulting blend is overwhelmingly tilted towards the barrel-age component, but the addition of dark fruit, fig and toffee from the fresh barleywine and citrus, pine and resinous character from the hops adds depth and complexity to the final blend.

500 ml bottle poured into a tulip

A- Dark brown with a two finger tan head.

S- Toffee, figs/dark fruits, some citrus, bourbon, some oak, caramel malts, some pine.

T- Toffee, citrus, figs, some dark fruits, caramel malts, bourbon, some oak, a little piney.

M- Smooth, full body.

O- This is good, but some of the flavors clash. I’m not sure why Kane is dry hopping this, blending it with a non-dry hopped version is a big improvement. I feel like this would be more in the 4.5 range without the dry hopping.

Pours a murky dark amber color, tight mocha head that lingers. Fantastic aroma - rich, sweet caramel, molasses, touch of cola. Very complex beer, I get a lot of the barrel aged component, but the fresh beer gives it a completely new dimension. Loads of dark fruit: dried dates, dried figs, sticky toffee, bittersweet caramel. Extremely flavorful. Carbonation is light. Very creamy and smooth texture. Overall a delicious beer, wish I bought more...

Pours very nicely, super dark brown with a nice slowly forming dense creamy light brown head. Settles into a nice ring of of that same dense head.

Smell hit me as I poured it...it presents almost a minty smell to it at first. Followed by pretty strong oak and bourbon. There is also a raisin like dark fruit aroma as well.

Wow was my first reaction to the taste it hits the tongue with a really nice sweetness like bitting into a fresh cherry. It’s really neat because it is not sweet at all after that, just the initial hit. Oak and bourbon follow but there is also some leather, tobacco thing going on. The verdict here tons going on but all so well balanced.

Mouthfeel is nice and smooth for how big the body is. Nice moderate bitterness on the finish. Wow though this is a potent beer, I feel like I need to sip as slow as I’d sip bourbon.
