This year we wanted to make a variant that was inspired by the classic Shamrock Shake. To achieve that sweet and creamy flavor we conditioned the stout on a generous amount of peppermint and Madagascar vanilla beans. The result is a decadent yet balanced beer with sweet vanilla notes and a bright mint finish.

To mimick the taste of a popular fast food springtime specialty, Kane Brewing looks to peppermint and vanilla to take their Port Omna "American Export Stout" to the dessert aisle.
With a general black pour, the frothy Peppermint & Vanilla rendition of Port Omna swoons the nose with a tone of chocolate and mint to suggest a more mocha-like spin on the milkshake inspiration. Sweet on the tongue, a taste of chocolate, vanilla cream, sorghum and honey frame the beer's early impressions.
A little lighter on sweetness, the middle palate trends slightly more roasty, smokey and toasty with the flavors of coffee, cocoa and roasted nuts. As the minty flavors come so do the bittersweet chocolate for that quintessential dessert combination. Soothing vanilla and cream come with a late taste of dark fruit, grilled fruit and a slightly smoky, woodsy edge for a slight semblance of bitterness for balance.
Full bodied, creamy and lush, the stout finishes malty-sweet and with a light kahlua spice to finish. The aftertaste of chocolate mint come with soothing vanilla and cream linger with an evaporative cooling of mint.

Sunday deck sampling with wife of port omna alongside the 4 2021 variants. Nice experience.
This was worst of the 5, but still respectable.
Mint is a tough flavor to integrate into beer, even a dark beer. Peripherals were decent. Mint flavor is just strange with the roasted barley and earthiness of a dry porter, even though it melds with the coca nibs just fine. Aroma is very nice and clean. Taste is cool peppermint patty at first, but devolves into a bit of an ugly mint/toast/mineral flavor.
Appreciate the effort. Despite some knocks, this may be the best mint beer i've had.
