A- A murky brown with red highlights and a small tan head.

S- Toffee, caramel, dark fruits, figs, oak, cognac, bourbon, oak, earthy, touch of red wine.

T- Dark fruits, figs, molasses, nutty, toffee, caramel, oak, bourbon, cognac, leather, earthy, some red wine.

M- Smooth, full body.

O- Big, sweet and a little boozy. Lots going on with the different barrels but the flavors come together nicely.

 

With layers and layers of flavors piled on top of each other, Kane Brewing chooses the English Barleywine style to absorb all of the wholesome goodness form bourbon, wine, rye whisky and cognac barrels for an oh-so special occasion beer.

Rusty in color, the amber, garnet and tarnish fifth installment of Stacking Casks flaots a creamy ivory froth before swaying the senses with a bevy of condensed and toasted sugars, dark fruit, candied nuttiness, woodsy aromas and vinous spice that tingle the nose with depth and strength. Generous in its sweetness, the early palate is chocked full of caramel, toffee, brown sugar and butterscotch.

Trending toasty, nutty and slightly coffee-like, as the beer's sweetness starts to dissolve, there's a nuttiness that seems of caramelizd Cracker Jacks along with a peppery, toasty and slightly roasty taste. As the barrels start to come in waves, the middle palate trends fruity with raisin, date, fig and grape. Those barrels eventually win out with a tannic heavy spice that has the beer trending wine-like with a stronger pep of brandy, bourbon, peppery rye and a slightly bitter woodsiness.

Full bodied but slightly drier than the typical British-styled Barleywine, the heavy barrel aging allows for a leathery dryness to permeate the mouthfeel and bring a sense of drinkability and easiness to an otherwise sipping session. The beer finishes on the sweeter side of bittersweet with a warming aftertaste of wine, pepper and whisky.
