Brining a collection of bourbon and barley to the tastebuds, Kane Brewing locks onto Woodford Reserve Double Oak barrels for a nice long slumber for their blended barleywine.
Darker than usual, Wooden Clean brings its oxidized scent of savory oak, whisky, toffee and caramel to the nose as soon as its scantly headed froth settles. Boldly sweet, the taste doubles down on the dense malt flavors with bold suggestions of toffee, caramel, vanilla, coconut, honey and maple. With a low-lying hop presence, the complex sweetness remains in command of the session drawing in additional flavors of coffee and chocolate before trailing into a port-like finish and a cola-like aftertaste.
Full bodied, malty and off-cloying, the ale is warm, savory and comforting with the prominence of Woodford Reserve bourbon highlighting the show.

On tap, brewery.
Smooth, for being freshly released (albeit after 17 months in barrels).
Getting some bottles to age.

Bottle to snifter. Not sure that my previous rating gave this beer its righteous due.
It is fantastic, and while 4.48 is very respectable; this deserves to be a touch higher.
4.64.
Tasting notes of leather, licorice, tobacco, vanilla, brown sugar, molasses, fig, oak, bourbon, red wine, plum, smoke, fruitcake.....and so many others in some lesser impact.

Poured from a bottle at fridge temp. Pours super dark brown - almost black. Minimal head. Appears to be very low carbonation. The nose is rich toffee, plums, raisins, vanilla, bourbon, wood, and a nice layer of brown sugar.
The taste is fantastic. Follows the nose, but with greater intensity. Also getting significant notes of port and sherry. Toffee, plums, raisins, brown sugar, vanilla, sweet candy, a hint of molasses, and a nice oaky layer. Super intense. Definitely boozy, but not in an off-putting way.
The mouthfeel is rich and thick. Overall, this is an intense and phenomenal barleywine. Glad I got to try it.

Extremely intense raisin and molasses throughout plus mellow, oaky tobacco at the finish. At the edges throughout are honey, vanilla toffee, and a lovely bourbon note. Magnificent. As intense as this is, I suppose it's fair to say that 250ml is a reasonable portion. I want more though dammit.
