Flipping Pancakes was inspired by its sister barrel aged imperial stout – Dripping Maple. Instead of an imperial stout as its base, Flipping Pancakes is a blend of an oat heavy barleywine that was aged for 27 months in Willett Bourbon barrels and a Rye heavy barleywine that was aged for 34 months in Woodford Reserve Malt Whiskey barrels. The blend was then conditioned on Madagascar Vanilla Beans, Korintje Cinnamon and Maple.

This is one of the rare occasions where I give a higher overall score than any other aspect, but it just nails the concept (a stack of pancakes with cinnamon and maple syrup)! Each element is very good, but the overall product is nearly perfect, though extremely non-traditional!

Sweet, savory, soothing and built for... breakfast? Kane brewers know how we roll and the influence of pancakes put the wheels on the flavor bus.

Giving us big Denny's vibes, Flipping Pancakes pours a dark amber hue with a subtle ominous haze. As the strong ale floats a thin creme of froth, it's aromas build with toffee, caramel, honey and maple with a pep of cinnamon and bourbon for extra measure. And those dark, savory and robustly sweet malts wrap around the tongue, a gentle cinnamon spice and woodsy hops work together for balance and complexity. Finishing with a warm bourbon character, extra vanilla, caramel, nutty oak and light smoky char wrap up the session.

Full bodied, sweet and daringly breakfast-like, all this Denny's breakfast is missing is the orange juice and cigarette butts.

Pours dark and thick like an imperial stout, minimal head. Fantastic aroma - I get chocolate, coconut, vanilla, and light cinnamon. Flavor is chocolate, sweet vanilla, maple, touch of cinnamon. Has a tangy quality to it on the finish. Light carbonation. Overall a delicious BA beer.
