Matte black with a finger of dark khaki head that has middling retention, but leaves a thick, soupy crown and some messy lacing.

Great mix of maple, cinnamon, milked breakfast-roast coffee, roasted malt and pancake in the aroma.

The taste is lighter than expected based on the nose and ABV, although perhaps not inappropriately so for a porter (even of the Imperial variety). There’s some light maple sweetness to it, and even hints of blueberry. Light milked coffee, with less of the roastiness in the coffee or the malt from the nose. Some definite rye spiciness. And the cinnamon strikes comparatively strong in the finish, lingering with some sweetness in the aftertaste.

Medium bodied, with some creamy chewiness to it. Low carbonation.

One of those beers where the taste doesn’t quite live up to the super-impressive nose (although the rye character here is great). Still an overall pleasure.

Glossy black with a puffy yet airy tan head that fizzles out to a short khaki film ridged thick at the edge.

The spicy rye barrel's contrasting warmth within the firmly fizzy carbonation actually enhances the maple characteristics to the point I've not experienced in any Sunday Brunch variation before. The maple even has a pleasantly smoky quality, helping to balance it's sweetness, to start. However, over time, the sweetness does increase.

That classic Rook coffee is more present on the nose, while taste brings more barrel char that dries out the medium silky body fairly well in the swallow before exhaling vanilla streusel. And as always with Sunday Brunch, the cinnamon is well measured, adding the perfect accent that brings the entire palate together neatly.

bottle to snifter

LOOK: dark black color, hints of brown around the edge. small beige head. legs and lacing.

AROMA: rye whiskey and oak is at the forefront. of the Sunday Brunch attributes, only cinnamon comes through.

TASTE: cola, rye whiskey, cinnamon, coffee and roasty malt come through late. Spicy peppery notes linger.

FEEL: medium to full body (85%), surprisingly a little flat, I know it is not supposed to be a lively seltzer like beer, but still for as fresh as this is I expected a little more pop in the carbonation even if subtle. Still smooth and lightly syrupy.

The peppery rye flavors are an interesting addition, but maple and chocolate notes are completely lost here. Still excellent, just the least excellent version of SB I've had. I wonder if the Rye Barrel might complement the Mexican Brunch better.

Drank 8-12-21….just a few hours after pickup.

Pours a nice brown, near black, with no head and moderate carbonation. Huge huge notes of cinnamon here, along with coffee, sweet maple and a nice Barrel finish. But the cinnamon really stands out in this one.

Could be a little thicker but not bad. Preferred this to the regular non BA Sunday brunch. Split the bottle 3-ways which was perfect for a post dinner supper. Would purchase again
