This was the second of four Port Omnas given to me by a friend recently in a trade. I enjoy having Rice Pudding and indeed, this reminded me of it to some extent because of the coconut and it's creamy, sticky nature. Like the other iteration that was released with this, this was a good dessert beer that would make for an excellent nightcap during the evenings when spring hasn't quite fully arrived yet!
No surprise that this poured a brown with a full, tan head with a ton of bubbles in it. A nice amount of lacing was left behind as I worked my way through this as there was a thick sheeting above the level of the liquid that left a few hints of rings in it. Lots of toasted coconut in the nose along with some milk chocolate as the taste was just as sweet, sticky, and fully balanced underneath. A nice amount of cinnamon emerged as this warmed up as this was plenty smooth and slick with the end result feeling like something that would be released right before Halloween.
Indeed, this had hints of pumpkin pie and cool whip in it as the vanilla was more recessed than I would have liked. No doubt that the alcohol was spot-on as the body and heft were right where they needed to be. Canned on 2/21, this felt as fresh as could be and would be even better with a nitro pour. Enjoyed this iteration as I'd have it year-round, since it was a Stout for all seasons. Grab a can and find out why!
