Packing a wallop of hops into a relatively calm beer, Kane Brewing employs a rather complex hop regimen of Citra, Riwaka experimental HBC 586 hops and Nelson Sauvin for a sneaky little session.
Pale gold and held in a soft pastel glow, Extra Sneaky tops off with a dense white blanket of foam and a radiant scent of tropical fruit, citrus, berry, tea and herb. As its malty-dry taste of cereal, honeysuckle and wafer provide a sweeter foundation of flavor, the session soon favors the hops.
And those hops billow on the middle palate taking on a tropical taste to start. Passionfruit, mango, pineapple and kiwi quickly turn citrusy with orange, pink grapefruit and lemon. Hints of green apple, pawpaw, gooseberry and rhubarb bring a nearly tangy sherbet-like taste before the herbal bitterness of green tea, verbena, cedar and grass clippings round out the balance.
Medium-light and trending in the session ale direction, the beer finishes drier, crisper and cleaner than most hazy ale for a refreshing and highly drinkable taste and texture. Finishing with suggestions of tropical fruit peel, tea and light hemp, the ale trails into a medium length grassy, herbal bitterness.
