2022 vintage
Nearly 4 months after visiting Kane for the first time while I was in New Jersey, I'm getting to the big beers that they're known for. This one has some crazy barrel aging going on here, being aged in cognac, rum, and Amburana barrels, also making this my first experience with the elusive Amburana. Let's dive right in
Pours a very dark brown with a finger of tan head that fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing
The nose is definitely sweet, but between its complexity and notes of spice, it's far from cloying. I'm picking up on aromas of chocolate fudge, toasted oak, cognac, sweet vanilla, burnt caramel, brown sugar, red grape, cinnamon, nougat, black cherry, and spiced rum
It's less sweet in taste, but this thing still packs one hell of a punch. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting cognac, red grape, black cherry, toffee, gingerbread cookies, burnt caramel, cocoa powder, vanilla, charred oak, cinnamon, and light brown sugar. The swallow brings notes of gingerbread cookies, charred oak, molasses, brown sugar, spiced rum, burnt caramel, red grape, raisin, nougat, light brandy, and chocolate fudge
A medium full body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a smooth and slick beer. Finishes neutral with a decent amount of boozy heat
This is an insane, unique beer. Impossible to pigeonhole this one as there's so much going on. I wish I had more to cellar, but I'll savor every last sip I have in front of me
