Like pavlov's dog when he hears the evening bell, Kane is drawing porter fans to the brewery with the sound of maple syrup, rye whisky and thirteen percent in alcohol.
Rye Whisky Barrel Evening Bell pours very dark brown, easily mistaken for stout. As its sweet, sultry and spicy scent rises from a mocha whipped froth, it also rises with coffee, cocoa, maple and vanilla, a chocolaty port takes hold. Sweeter in taste, the early sips leave a heavy coat of molasses, maple, chocolate and toffee on the tongue.
As its malty sweet impressions stew away on the middle palate, the tastebuds are awash in grain and maple sugars before its more robust taste of coffee, cocoa, woodsy and peppery flavors add a hint of balance. Spicy with a light and earthen grit, the rye whisky adds warmth, peppercorn and char to the lingering sweetness.
Full bodied, plush on the palate and decidedly malty-sweet, the taste extends into a dessert-like aftertaste leaving a trail of brownie batter and kahlua behind.
