Glass: Monkish 16-oz. mug
Price: $3.63
From: Trader Joe’s in College Area (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: July 30, 2021
Consumed: July 30, 2021
Misc.: Canned on June 17, 2021
Grabbed six singles and a 6-pack of Coronado Weekend Vibes at the campus Trader Joe’s on the way home from work. I kind of like trying all the Smog City beers even though some of them are just OK. I’m definitely a sucker for anniversary beers though. Poured a yellow pale clear color with four fingers of rocky-to-frothy off-white head. Plenty of fast-moving bubbles coming up from the bottom and sides of the glass. Perfect uneven foamy lacing. Almost perfect foamy retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled Chinook, dank pine, wood, caramel, Centennial, lime, grapefruit rind, herbal, wet grass, mixed berry and hints of the mentioned Strata. A little better out of the can with some added notes of mango. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted about as good as the nose. In order got Chinook, dank pine, wood, caramel, Centennial, lime, black pepper, herbal, wet grass, earthy pilsner malt, bitter grapefruit rind, aspirin, mixed berry and light Strata. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.25)
A super solid West Coast IPA. Outstanding overall. (Overall - 4.00)

Well, decent enough. However, I don't think it was the best choice for an anniversary beer.
Not quite clear, not quite hazy. Decent head rose and quickly settled in to a thin film. Light lacing.
Nose is light malt and slightly citrusy and piney.
Flavor follows through about the same. Not bad, just kind of what you be happy to find at a small, nascent brewery early into its presence.
Mouthfeel is decent. Light side of medium, slick, mild carbonation.
Overall, nothing bad here, just doesn't really stand out. Maybe I need to try it on tap.

Super. Big up to the Smog City boys on ten years. When I was ten I was probably watching Mike Piazza hit bombs while macking on a licorice rope. Memories…
Anyway, it’s all good because Smog City did it well and good - a beautifully crafted West Coast IPA that is 6.5%. Like, can Raul chill!? Smog City says yes I can! No lactose, no durian or other whack fruits. It’s not 10%…
Hells to the yeah. Summer in SoCal and Raul is chilling like a bee after a nice suckle of nectar. No GMO Round Up here, just the goodies.
See ya.

canned 6/23. Consumed 7/16/21. Nice gold/orange color with more than 1 finger of decently long lasting white or off-white head that leaves some lacing. However, it was neither hazy nor crystal clear; just a hint of fog. Nice, appreciable smell coming off the can as soon as I opened it. I can't pinpoint it so much as a specific fruit smell but rather more of hoppy/malty complex smell. Similar taste; the hop combination really comes through as pleasantly different from the more typical Citra/Mosaic dominated IPAs that i seem to gravitate towards. A little disappointed in the mouthfeel. To me it was a tad overly gassy / highly carbonated than I prefer, and relative to IPAs that are >90pt beers. Overall I like it although I am not sure I would have held this up as THE BEER to celebrate a 10th anniversary of brewing.
