He is a ruler, an overlord, a top dog, a crowned head. In the richly varied domain of prokaryotic microorganisms, Jelly King reigns supreme.
Rather than choosing between sour or hoppy, we decided to create a beer that would be both at the same time. Showcasing the aromatic benefits of a generous dry hop (Citra, Amarillo, and Cascade), harnessing the pleasing acidity of lactic acid producing bacteria (we use a 5-strain house blend), and coming to a bottle near you without a pesky 2 year slumber in oak, Jelly King is the fermented embodiment of having your cake and eating it too.
We decided to celebrate the exodus of summer with one of our most drinkable Jelly King variants yet. We conditioned this batch of Jelly King on a huge amount of pineapple, tangerine & grapefruit purée and the result is pure sunshine.

Bottle: Poured a hazy orangey color ale with a medium size foamy head with limited retention and some light lacing. Aroma of tart notes with nice fruity notes of pineapple and tangerine. Taste is also a mix of trat notes with some nice fruity notes of tangerine and pineapple with some more bitter notes from the grapefruit attenuating the tart notes. Body is quite full for style with good carbonation. Solid fruited sour.

A 500ml bottle, bottled on 1st March 2021, and poured into a Tilquin stemmed glass.
Appearance: A cloudy golden orange colour with a two finger white head that dissipated fairly quickly but left only sparse to no lacing.
Aroma: Tart, sweet hard candy, citrus cordial, pineapple, grapefruit and tangerine.
Taste: Sour, sweet and bitter, sour gummy candy, pineapple, grapefruit, tangerine, and citrus pith.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: I enjoyed this. It was like drinking liquid candy. Good easy drinking flavours and very refreshing.

500 mL bottle from the LCBO; dated Mar 2 2021 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a hazy golden marigold colour, generating nearly an inch of smooth, foamy white head that recedes at a brisk pace. Within two minutes or so, it has been reduced to a thin collar and a few wisps on the surface; no lacing to speak of. Looks normal for this type of sour, and the nose is bright and fruity - the pineapple is particularly noticeable, followed by the grapefruit, then the tangerine, and finally by a touch of lactic acidity and faint wheatiness. Juicy, citrusy - what's not to love?
Oh wow - it tastes even better than it smells. Quite sour and tart at the forefront, with a beautiful mix of lemon, grapefruit, pineapple and orange titillating the taste buds simultaneously. There are hints of grainy wheat malt and oat sweetness, but they're barely noticeable amidst all the fruity goodness. Finishes with lots of pineapple juiciness, followed by fading lactic acidity and grapefruit astringency into the aftertaste. Medium in body, with middling carbonation levels that gently agitate the surface of the tongue; it does have a bit of a crisp bite to it, but also feels a little pillowy and smooth in the mouth. I wouldn't call it sessionable, but it's damn quaffable nonetheless.
Final Grade: 4.32, an excellent A grade. Bellwoods is one of Ontario's most esteemed brewers, so I'm not entirely surprised that Jelly King Pineapple Tangerine Grapefruit is one of the best fruited sours I've ever reviewed. This one had just the right mix of tropical fruit/tangerine juiciness, lactic sourness and, uh, grapefruit-iness for my tastes, and I was left quite satisfied indeed by the end of the glass. At $7.50 per bottle, this is hardly affordable, but it's absolutely worth the money. I will be buying a few more of these while they're still available in my neck of the woods, and would encourage all BAs with an appreciation for fruity sours to seek this one out, post haste.

Review from notes. 500 ml bottle served cold into a chalice. Cost was $7.50 CDN.
Appearance - Hazy golden beer with hints of brown. Two fingers of head are poured which recede fairly quickly. Not much in the way of lacing.
Smell - Definitely some citrus, tangerine and grapefruit leading the way. Vague notion of wheat-like qualities in the background and of course the general aroma that seems to accompany any sour beer.
Taste - Fairly sour but not overblown. Tangerine and Grapefruit most present, I don't get a lot of pineapple but it is there lurking in the background.
Mouthfeel - Tart and spritzy, body is medium.
Overall - Wish the pineapple was a bit more pronounced, while it is a good sour, I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the mixed dark berry sour that was recently released in the area. I also probably prefer regular Jelly King to this and while the quality is excellent, these are beers for those sensitive to cost.

These guys pretty much have this down as their thing. Just a matter of waiting them out to see if they’re gonna deliver your favourite fruit combo. Tasty, tart, aromatic.

Pours golden and hazy. Aroma of pineapple and lemon on the nose. I’m not a big quick sour fan but Jelly King isn’t as acidic as others. Milky tartness supported by the fruit addition. It is not as pineapple forward as Pineapple Jelly King, but it definitely has a little bit more citric acid character.

I usually only can do one sour but I wanted to keep drinking this beer, it was delicious.
