Breakfast Blend Ale With Coffee Aged in Bourbon Barrels
From beneath the swirling black depths of time emerges a two-year cuvée laden with the rousing and ethereal specter of freshly roasted Dark Matter coffee. The resulting blend conjures notes of cocoa, vanilla, maple, and subtle smoke, in this, the most important beer of the day.

Twelve ounce can pours black with little head. No lacing.
Aroma and taste have a light rye lurking in the background. Despite the massive 15%+ ABV, the barrel is background only and not hot. Sorcery!
There's a myriad of flavors along with the rye - vanilla, maple, light chocolate. They mesh together well to make a sweet but not cloying flavor.
Carbonation is nearly zero. Despite this fact, mouthfeel is good and heavy.

Black color. Thin, beige head. Coffee, vanilla, wood, and roasted malt in the aroma. Same notes follow into rich taste. Warming finish. Another good one from Revolution.

Canned on 7/7/2023; consumed on 3/4/2025
Pours a jet-mahogany brown hue capped with a short-lived finger of pale khaki foam, fading quickly to a blank cap, slight yet frothy collar, and no lacing whatsoever holding to the walls of the glass.
Aroma wafts fresh coffee sporting caramel undertones predominant upfront, with dry rickhouse contrasted by milk chocolate building subtly as notes of brûléed sugar peak over time.
Taste brings bright coffee to the forefront once more, with bourbon-soaked marshmallow into creamy toffee while edges of smoky caramel and ripe bourbon nuance evolve through the mid-palate, leaving tones of burnt crème brûlée and warm French Toast finishing.
Mouthfeel offers a medium body and a mild spritz of carbonation, seeing tempered creaminess throughout while gentle roast tingles past the mid-palate and a slight warmth builds into the semi-dry finish.
Clean coffee expansion through levels of silky barrel expression; a burly yet softer blended ale with deft adjunct accentuation, and marked with a quintessential Revolution balance.

12oz can, dated 07.07.2023, poured into a stemless wine glass. Enjoyed on 12.23.2023, reviewed from Tasting Journal.
The beer pours a nice jet black color, bubbly pour, thick and opaque with a fizzy tan head that offers no retention nor lacing. The aroma is bursting with coffee, rich, fruity, lightly acidic, dark bitter chocolate, charred oak, hot spirit, caramel, toffee, and toasted coconut. The flavors are good, tons of rich coffee, lightly roasted coconut, stone fruits, big chocolate, hot spicy bourbon spirit, charred wood, earthy oak, caramel and toffee sweetness with light vanilla. The mouthfeel is good, coating and lively, nice medium body, a touch thin, smooth with a hot and boozy finish.
Verdict: A nice barrel aged coffee beer from Revolution. Very rich, bursting with coffee, nice layers of decadent flavor. It's big, hot, and constantly reminds you of that 15.9% ABV.

Pours a dark mahogany brown and sports a sudsy mocha colored head that dissipates quickly. Beautiful beer. The nose has lots of cocoa, vanilla, maple syrup, and a subtle smoky roasty malt aroma with some booze in the background. Drool.
The cocoa, vanilla, and maple syrup are very forward and delicious on the taste, with the roasty malt more pronounced on the taste mid-palate, and the booze lingering as a definitive warming at the back of the palate.
The mouthfeel is rich and edges towards creamy. This is so well executed and exemplary of Rev’s barrel-aged game, which is tippity top world class, IMHO. Phenomenal stuff.

12oz can at share. Near black pour, thin beige head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, sweet, coffee, coconut. Taste comes in thick, almost syrupy, chocolate, black coffee, anise, caramel, coconut. Mellow boozy warmth.

Great pour. Deep dark color. Good bubbly head, though it didn't last that long.
Sweet smell. Not sure what exactly, but heavy.
Very easy to drink, chocolatey, rich. The ABV is completely masked by the deep, delicious flavors.
Outstanding.

Revolution scores again. I’ve been anti-cuvée lately, but this rocks hard. It leans sweet at first but gets nudged by strong coffee, followed with a flavor of maple cured sausage and eggs. LOL! Even at only 5%, the amburana wood comes through nicely.

12oz can served in a snulip. Can is dated 07/07/2023, sent to me by the refulgent @ovaltine in NBS BIF #18.
Pours a dark cola color with a surprisingly vigorous head, peaking a little over a finger, settles down into a fairly thick tan ring with a couple of little dusty islands off-center in the surface. Smell is huge and boozy, cinnamon or nutmeg comes across right after the alcohol for me. Sweetness, and maybe some chicory, and I think vanilla is in there as an accent.
Taste is not a surprise. Still boozy, chocolate or cocoa come across a bit more, cinnamon/nutmeg note is still there though (thankfully) toned down. I wonder if it's my imagination, since it's not listed anywhere on the can or in the description on BA. I get some caramel, some maple, some creaminess (it does say "lactose" on the side, but it's strong enough I probably would have used that descriptor without having seen that), some vanilla. Coffee definitely, too. Overall, again, very sweet, but at least at this temperature that's offset by all the roasty chocolate and coffee.
Mouthfeel is thick, rich, creamy, very satisfying. Overall, this is a very nice beer.

Deep, thinnish pour with beige bubbles of carbonation that that attempt in vain to build up any sort of lasting head. The liquid quickly settles flat with just a handful of lazy bubbles settling about the surface.
The nose is bright and robust, featuring maple roast coffee, french vanilla ice cream, and a touch of Raisinet candy. Riding the background throughout are discernible notes of Mallow Cups.
The palate contrasts with a 1-2 punch of barrel bliss. While the chocolatey prominence carries over from the nose, there's expert integration of maple bourbon, white chocolate-covered espresso beans, and a touch of torched oak. Lingering onto the back-end of the palate is burnt caramel and a familiar coffee-induced bitterness.
When experiencing a new Rev beer, high plato is never something to expect. And while I almost always prefer heavier-bodied beers, Revolution brews never cease to be the exception. On the thinner side, with very noticeable carbonation. Incredibly smooth throughout, with the warmth from the alcohol only being felt on the swallow. Just a touch of lingering acid and bitterness.

Pours pitch black with a short lived brown head. The nose is complex. There is caramelized sugar, molasses, brown sugar, and barrel. The flavor has layers. At first there's caramelized sugar, dark fruit, and molasses followed by rich stout characteristics of chocolate, coffee, and roast. The barrel is present but not over powering as is the alcohol. Overall this is a really nice, complex offering. The sweetness slowed me down while sipping on it but pleasing nonetheless.

This was nice, but wouldn't go for another. Much preferred 'Deth by Cherries'. Body/mouthfeel is rather on the weak side here.

12oz. Can into a Side Project snifter.
Pours pitch black. A touch thin. A coarse layer of bubbles dissipates quickly. Slick oily legs. No legs. Nose is maple syrup, smoke, roasted coffee beans, and chocolate. Deep and rich. Very aromatic. Beer opens maple syrup, roasted coffee beans, and a touch of smoke. Some brine, chocolate, and more syrup in the middle. Roasted malt, cocoa powder, and coffee at the end and finish. Body is medium with moderate to low carbonation. Some bubbles on the palate and prickly going down. Sticky, lingering aftertaste.
The body is a bit lacking here and hurts what is otherwise a near perfect beer.
