I remember the halcyon days of my beer-drinking youth (so, about 7-8 years ago or so) when The Alchemist released (or perhaps re-released) some beers not called "Heady Topper" in cans, and among them was a cherry sour beer called Petit Mutant. Though I've to this day never had that beer, it sticks out in my mind as an example of how utterly excited I was, back then, at the prospect of fruited sour beer. They were a bit less common in America, from my recollection, back then, but now they're seemingly everywhere, and I couldn't be happier. This is a fairly new beer from Prairie that marks my first experience with a fruited sour from the brewery. I hope it is a good one.

The pour here is a deep ruby-red color with garnet highlights when held up to direct light. It is nearly-opaque, however, and bears absolutely no head even when hard-poured. Though the color is beautiful, the pour really leaves quite a bit to be desired. It seems like it's going to be more "cherry juice" than "beer" and that is not very inspiring to me personally.

Luckily, the nose is wonderfully detailed, with light sherry notes marrying with intense sour cherry, Balsamic vinegar-like elements and more dark fruit/unusual notes than I honestly expected. Some plum, pluot and even walnut-like nuttiness come out once this beer warms a bit. Slightly sugary and glazed over with cherry liqueur, the scent of this beer is really solid and entices me to sip at it slowly.

Though this is not a strong beer, the mouthfeel is incredibly heavy bodied and focused on the sour cherry aspects almost bullheadedly. I don't mind, but I feel like people will probably want to know that. Funnily enough, I recall the aforementioned Petit Mutant taking people aback with its really intense cherry flavor. This is kind of a testament to the evolution of taste among beer drinkers, who have been wanting more intensely-flavored fruit sours for years, culminating in something like this. Strong malty flavors give way to some light acetic notes and more sherry along with some light stone fruit (apricot, pluot) toward the end of each sip.

As mentioned above, the feel is on the heftier side, but the fruit flavors and intense acidity keep it in the drinkable realm. I would always be glad to have this in the fridge, but I have to be in the right mood to actually drink it. Take from that what you will.

Slightly hazy cherry red color with a modest pink head and nice lacing.
The aroma is tart cherries with just a hint of sour malt.
The taste is also tart cherries with a hint of lime, nicely tart, very refreshing, no real bitterness.
The body is light/medium, good carbonation level, crisp and very drinkable.
Altogether, this is a well done brew, great cherry flavor, just the right tartness, at least for those of us who like tart cherries, this is outstanding.

I think I might have had this one too old, but it tastes like your standard sour. I'm getting some cherry notes but overall just tart with a standard fruited kettle base. If you look for it there might be some deeper complexity, but only in a very slight tinge of aged maturity and not much else.

12oz canned March 8th 2023.

On the pour a nice and fine 2 finger white head formed on top of a lightly hazy, with some sediment, pinkish, golden amber body.

Aroma is tart, and very slightly oaky, much like wine, with a bright and dry faint malt in the background. Definitely coming off as wild and sour. Slight metallic twinge. Not super fruity.

Taste is similar to the aroma, but ever more tart bright and dry. Despite this, in the finish there is a slight, bit definitely crackery malt flavor. Solid but Sour Rosé is slightly better. The fruit is hard to specifically pick out, but it definitely plays a role here in the bright almost juicy flavors.

Feel is full, but incredibly dry. Not quite puckeringly tart, but it's close. The finish is surprisingly long for a sour, and is probably what the fruits are contributing most to. Not the most crushable.

Overall this is an interesting beer, but a bit overpriced. It is however a relatively normal and seemingly pretty legit fruity wild sour.

I had this beer from tap at our local pizza joint. Had just gotten back from trip but Ralphie wanted to go out!

The beer was poured from draft into a shaker pint. Sort of a pinkish brown color with no head or lacing. Sour cherry smell and taste. Flavor like a cherry limeade. Refreshing. Tart. Good feel. Not bad but probably not something to get again.

Nice sour flavor, balanced with cherry and good mouth feel. Surprised to enjoy a beer from Oklahoma this much.

pours a slightly hazy deep red body with light pink frothy foam head that has moderate retention and leaves slathers of lacing behind as it settles to a murky cap with big defined halo.

aroma is faint tart cherry.

taste is smoothed out tart cherry with a squeeze of lemon and a yeasty kick that comes across with a low spice to it, almost like white pepper.

feel is medium-high carbonation and medium-light bodied that runs ultra smooth and finishes lightly dry with a low tart cherry aftertaste that intensifies slowly as it sits on the palate.

overall:
great looking brew that has an ultra-comfy feel to it while still entertaining a tartness that gives it a nice complexity that is super easy to sit on and enjoy. shame it only comes in a 4 pack

Not sure how sours hold up to age, so benefit of the doubt here that at 6mos it has deteriorated. Pours a near-clear dark magenta with a few fizzy bubbles on top. Aroma is all tart berry, as is the flavor. Not much in the way of malt backbone, which is what I really look for in a good sour, so pretty one-dimensional.

Pours a hazy magenta color with a foamy pinkish head which lingers. Berries including strawberry and raspberry on the nose along with some lemon, cherry and vanilla. Taste follows the nose with a tartness which is followed by a balanced berry flavor.
