Not your Bavarian grandfather's wheat beer. We use grapefruit zest and pulp at different points in the process to insert the character of the fruit into the beer, and hops are carefully selected to emphasize the citrus notes. But don’t expect this to taste like the first course of Sunday breakfast; the fruit flavour is subtle, and the bitter quality of the grapefruit is balanced nicely by a bit of sweetness in the finish.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a weizen glass. From The Roundhouse Centre LCBO on Howard Ave. in nearby Windsor. Canned November 8/24. My fourth beer from the Ottawa, Ontario brewery, and for 2025. Heartily approved by Gracie the cat...

Pours hazy, pale straw with a fluffy, chunky head that lasts a while. Bready pale malts, spicy wheat and ruby red grapefruit juice in the nose. Grapefruit juice, citrusy, herbal hops and chewy malts in the taste. High hop bitterness for an American Wheat Ale. The mouthfeel is full bodied with creamy, active carbonation. The finish is lightly bitter with lingering hop aromatics and grapefruit.
This is a great wheat ale. Grapefruit in abundance but not over done, good hop profile, super crushable. Highly recommended.

I drink grapefruit juice all the time. Love the stuff. This brew is as close as you wanna get to being a straight up glass of white grapefruit juice. Doesn't strike me as too beery, except for noticeable hops in the nose, less so to taste. Not too aggressively bitter or pithy, no hopslap, enough maltiness to sweeten it up some. Hazy pale orange gold, pretty good lace out of a ring and full film. Drinkable, especially if you like grapefruit juice.

473 mL can from a London-area LCBO; no packaging date. Served well chilled.
Pours a foggy, translucent golden-yellow hue, with a full inch of spongy, sparkling white head rising from the surface. It dissipates fully within five minutes, with a lovely, even coat of sticky lacing applied in its wake; a frothy collar of foam is also left behind, framing a bubbly, filmy-thin cap. I had been expecting a blast of citrus on the nose, but the aroma is actually rather inconspicuous - there's definitely notes of citrusy pink grapefruit and lemon zest in there, but they aren't all that much more prominent than the underlying backbone of clean, grainy, bready pale malt sweetness. Perhaps a touch of peach and floral hops, but now I'm starting to reach.
Fortunately, the flavour profile is a bit more in line with what I was expecting. Pale malt flavours are a continuous presence throughout the sip, providing a wheat-like, bready baseline with slight hints of caramelized sweetness, all of which help to provide some contrast vs. the citrus and hops (which dominate the tail end of the sip). Pink grapefruit juiciness shows up as expected, as do notes of citrus pith, floral hops and a mildly piney, earthy bitterness at the finish. The aftertaste is a pleasant mix of wheat malt sweetness and light grapefruit pith bitterness which slowly subside from the taste buds. Medium in body, with moderate-to-low carbonation that daintily brushes the palate to little effect; I'd describe the texture as fairly soft and smooth. Fair drinkability at 6%, with balanced, appealing flavours that make it almost semi-sessionable.
Final Grade: 3.86, a B+. Beyond the Pale's Pink Fuzz is pretty solid for a basic flagship offering, but it's not without its issues. I mostly feel that the grapefruit is just underutilized, which is a bit of a no-no when the marketing/label focuses so strongly on that particular element. It's also possible that this is just an old can... but they don't code their products, so I can't take that into consideration. Likely the weakest of the four BtP tallboys I picked up a few weeks back, and not a very memorable grapefruit beer overall... but I'd say it's still good enough to warrant a try, even at $3.50/serving.

Golden amber with lots of carbonation, and 3 fingers of off white head.
Smells fruity, like ruby red grapefruit, malty and of green, grassy hops.
Tastes of deep, caramelised malts, grapefruit, and green, herbal, grassy hops.
Smooth and foamy, light feeling body with lots of carbonation.
Got in Toronto, drinking in Markham Jan 28th, 2017. Interesting, weird, a little flat in the middle, but good.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. A Fortinos purchase for $3.50 CDN.
Appearance - Hazy medium dark gold color with yellow highlights. A finger of white head sits on top and has medium staying power. Little traces of lacing all around the glass.
Smell - Some wheat and subtle bits of sweet grapefruit. Enjoyable and also with some floral notes, but significantly less aromatic that I'd expected.
Taste - Medium-low level of bitterness, plenty of grapefruit, some grain and a certain creamy taste from the wheat. Quite yummy. as there is bitterness and sweetness here. Can taste the 6.0% ABV.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, fairly expressive carbonation and juicy while simultaneously being creamy. In a strange way a beer that could sort of almost be called a milkshake IPA without the lactose.
Overall - Quite a solid Pale Wheat, APA, IPA whatever this is, it's quite tasty, well executed and full of originality. Worth a try although on the steeper end of things price wise.
