Dia De Los Deftones is the namesake of the bands annual music festival, and we had to collaborate on a beer that reflected the amazing and diverse music featured. Combining the refreshing crushability of a lager and the exciting flavor of lime, this combo is perfect for hanging out on a warm, fall day listening to some of the best music by one of the most seminal bands of our time.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden amber color with a large head of white foam. The head fades slowly over time, leaving a moderate amount of lacy foam on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is super heavy of a lime smell mixed with some aromas of cracker malt and a bit of bread. In there is a touch of salt and a bit of caramel rounding it all out.
Taste – The taste starts out with a crisp cracker and caramel malt flavor mixed with a decent showing of lime. These tastes are persistent throughout, with the lime getting slightly stronger as the taste advances. Some light grainy tastes join in at the end. With a touch of salt and grass coming on at the finish, one is left with lime heavy, and moderately malty taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is medium to low. A thinner body and higher carbonation level would have been better for the brew, accommodating the lime, cracker, and lower abv nicely to create a more easy drinking and refreshing brew.
Overall - OK. Better Mexican lagers out there. If you like something heavier and very lime forward this may be for you. If not, then may want to forgo.

Looks, smells, and tastes a lot like the standard Mexican style lagers. with a bit more of a lime kick. I’m not the biggest fan of the style, so I may not be the best judge. It doesn’t seem worth the price when it’s so similar to the cheaper Mexican lagers. I might actually prefer a Modelo to this.

Glad I saw this in stores. Picked up one for Kristine on her and Bill’s trip out here, and one for me too. Belching Beaver’s website called it, “Dia De Los Deftones is the namesake of the bands annual music festival, and we had to collaborate on a beer that reflected the amazing and diverse music featured. Combining the refreshing crushability of a lager and the exciting flavor of lime, this combo is perfect for hanging out on a warm, fall day listening to some of the best music by one of the most seminal bands of our time.”
Poured a pale-to-golden color with one finger of off-white fizzy head, which dissipated quickly. Could see just a few bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Very bad watery lacing. Minimal retention. (Sight - 2.50)
Smelled lime, salt, pepper, herbal, green pepper and citrus zest. Also detecting a bit of earthy malt. More of the same from the can. (Smell - 4.00)
First thing I thought on the taste was, ‘Damn, that’s refreshing.’ In order got lime, salt, pepper, herbal, green pepper, Saaz and hints of earthy malt. (Taste - 4.00)
Light-to-medium body. Thin-to-oily texture. Lively carbonation. Clean, crisp finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Outstanding beer overall. Would have it again for sure. (Overall - 4.00)

looks like these guys are doing all kinds of beers with this band, kind of a neat collaborative idea, this is the first of them i believe i have had. its a lager with lime, something i generally dont love, but i was impressed with this. the lime seems really natural, and the quality of the base lager is there. the dose of the lime is right too, it doesnt overtake the beer or even really demand much attention, and i think thats smart to leave it as an accent. the lager is real basic and light, which i also think makes sense for something designed to be a crusher. i dont taste any yeast in it really, maybe some light fruitiness of a mexican lager strain, but it kind of runs into the lime, although it has a great crispness and dryness that make it refreshing. the overall lightness is awesome, and its super bubbly, so it definitely accomplishes its objective. the lime is natural and it doesnt linger, the malt is as simple and minimal as it gets, and the fermentation is nice and clean. i have never really liked the belching beaver branding, it looks like beer that doesnt take itself very seriously, which is fine, but kind of a turn off personally. that said, the beers almost always exceed my expectations, and they really do make some fantastic stuff. technically speaking this is excellent, and one of the best lime lagers i can recall. really nicely done, i could drink a ton of these!

Finally found a place that had this, rushed over there and grabbed it for $11.99 (not too shabby)
The can alone deserves a 5/5 They really outdid themselves with this can.
The smell has hints of lime and other amazing aromas, I can’t really pinpoint what else is going on there.
The taste is kind of light but not bad it’s actually pretty damn refreshing. No bitterness at all. It’s your average Mexican style lager but no where near corona or modelo. Way way way way way way better than that.
Look of it has an Amber clear look to it.
Overall this beer is amazing, I’ve tried all the other Deftones styles but this one has to be the best of the bunch. Definitely would recommended if you see it or if you’re a fan of a Mexican lager or even the Deftones.
*cheers.
