Ordinary lager simmer baseball beer. Beats macto beers as dome mouthfeel and not dry mouth letdown. Sippable. On tap at og source. Worth a try gor simmer beer fans.

355 mL can from the LCBO; dated Jul 25 2023 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a clear straw yellow colour, generating half a finger of loose, soapy white head that barely lasts for sixty seconds. A thin collar is the only remnant of note, with scant lace and an otherwise barren surface. It smells of grainy malts, rice cakes and white bread. Nothing exciting so far.

Wholesome flavours - I'm tasting grainy pale malts and plain rice cakes, with hints of white bread, appleskin and just a hint of honey sweetness. Grainy-sweet back end that fades to off-dry. Light in body, with moderate carbonation that feels a little prickly on the palate; smooth mouthfeel, and effortlessly drinkable. This can didn't last long, and I wouldn't have minded another.

Final Grade: 3.55, a serviceable B grade. I think it's fair to say that Bird Watcher is not one of Left Field's most inspired efforts. Don't get me wrong, this is a well-made lager, but it's really not that difficult to find a decent lager these days... not to mention, the price tag here is rather steep, i.e. this short can is about the same price as a tall can of Euro lager (e.g. Czechvar, Kozel or Bitburger) at the LCBO. I like supporting the little guys where I can, but that choice is a no-brainer. It's still cheaper than a beer at the ball game, I guess, but this isn't a brew I'm in a hurry to revisit - I'd prefer their Ice Cold Beer.
