The Virtue Of PatienceThe Virtue Of Patience
Notes: Glory is impermanent. We age, we wither, we perish. And our death bed is adorned in our finest moments. We welcomed our Forestry Camp to the world with this fine strong ale’s inaugural vintage in 2019. Here is our third chapter. Our 2021 vintage was aged in Bourbon Barrels for the past year, enduring the slog that was a challenging battle with forces we could not see. This blend was championed by our brewer, Chris Golden, who dug out some excellence from our barrel cellar. Warm up with a bevy of caramel, toasted marshmallow, dark chocolate and tahitian vanilla on the aroma, leading into flavors molasses, toasted coconut, vanilla, bourbon, and dates. Show Less

Pours a deep red walnut color like old fine dark furniture with a hint of red, small tan head made up of individual bigger bubbles doesn't last long and only leaves spotty lace.

Aroma is not as big as you would think rich caramel malts with vanilla notes, thicker toffee hints underneath, dark fruit, barrel notes and touches of chocolate.

Taste is bigger then the nose but similar, still lighter then you would expect given the abv. Big chewy caramel, toffee hints underneath, light chocolate notes, good vanilla, barrel notes all over. Good flavors nice beer not as many free floating sugars as many English styles sport but flavor in nice rich and multi layered.

Mouthfeel is medium leaning to the full side but not as full as you would expect this beer to be. A little bit of chewiness would work wonders.

Overall very favorable just lacking a little to make it wonderful , still very nice.

2023 Bottle -- poured light in color, but with some viscosity. Nose had toffee, leather, and barrel, with a hint of booze. Flavors stayed on the leather/tobacco/toffee and didn't stray into sugary territory. Finish was remarkably clean.

Tried a 2023 bottle in 2023.
Pours is deep burnt caramel color with a neat little head that is tan. Nose initially is straight up bourbon, but after letting the beer sit for a bit and breathe I smell toasted caramel and a nutty aroma. Taste is similar to nose, initially all bourbon but as the flavors meld across the palate toasted nuts, caramel and coconut flavors come through. There is a certain amount of burn that comes from the higher ABV, but not overwhelming.

500 mL bottle. Deep brown. Smells of bourbon and strong oak, deep earthy malts, and brown sugar. Tastes of caramel, bourbon, sweet dark fruits, nutty malts, and a hefty oak backdrop. Not all that heavy, sweet, or even boozy, except for the bourbon component. A part of me is happy it isn't outrageously sweet, but a part of me also misses the brown sugar flavor that so often dominates beers of its ilk.

Released 1/20/21; drank 2/7/21 @ the Yarchives. Aged 1 year in Willet barrels.

Opaque brown/orange rust appearance.

Oak, leather, acorn, bourbon & faint raspberry notes in the nose.

Creamy, thick mouthfeel.

Leather, oak & raisin flavors up front; mild bourbon heat & faint cream notes on the finish.

An absolute dream of a barrel aged barleywine. Huzzah, Burial!!

On tap at Pop the Top Crafts in Charlotte. Brown color. Mild lacing to top. Smell is malts and a touch of carmel. Flavor is muted caramel. Mild barrel. Thin mouthfeel for the style.

This was a good beer, but I was hoping for more of a sticky, raisiny, carmelly barrel bomb and ended up getting more of a 'summer' BA barleywine.

2/4/21 Edit: Just had the newest version of this, and its everything I wanted the previous release to be. More caramel, raisin, etc. Great job this go around!
