Relinquished are our demons of the day. Another stroll down the halls of lagerdom history, this time inspired by the crux between classic Schwarzbier and modern American dark lagers. Mashed with German Pilsner and roasted malt, and free the complexity of our belaboring decoction-style mashing. We hopped delicately with Tettnanger, fermented with our house lager yeast under pressure to form natural carbonation, and aged many weeks in our horizontal steel lagering tanks. Dive into the chilly sunset with bakers chocolate, tootsie roll, fizzy cola and brittle toffee.

Look: It pours very dark brown with a brown head. Head retention is very good.
Smell: There is a bit of sweetness to the aroma with coffee and some dark fruits most resembling plums. It also has a bit of an earthen quality to it.
Taste: The flavor is balance towards the sweet side with dark fruits, plum, and coffee. There are also touches of roast. There are some background earthen elements as well.
Feel: It has a medium body with a finish that is slightly on the sweet side.
Overall: The flavors are balance towards the sweetness, but not so much as to affect the overall presentation.

Canned 1/5/24; drank 3/26/24 @ Pickleball Pizza.
Black/brown appearance.
A rough pour yielded a nice tan head; minimal lacing remained.
Fresh earth, cream & faint blackberry notes in the nose.
Creamy medium mouthfeel.
Cream, fresh earth & mild blackberry flavors.
Robust but easy to drink.
I'd have another!

16 oz can from the Wall of Beer in Clemson, SC ($3.79).
Although this is a fine looking dark lager equipped with a good beige head, I found the aroma and flavor to be disappointing. Roasted grains include some dark enough to emit a little suggestion of smoke and burnt toast.

A: Pours a clear opaque jet black in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate dark chestnut brown + dark amber + dark golden yellow colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall fizzy sudsy foamy dark beige head that slowly reduces to a handful of small to medium sized patches of medium thick film surrounded by a large patch of thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of roasted + dark + toasted + grainy malts with minimal amounts of grainy sweetness. Light to moderate aromas of lager yeast. Light aromas of floral + herbal + earthy hops.
T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of roasted + dark + toasted + grainy malts with minimal amounts of grainy sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of lager yeast. Finally there are light flavors of floral + herbal + earthy hops. Moderate amounts of slightly lingering roasty bitterness which eventually fades away leaving a relatively clean finish.
M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly crisp initially with a relatively clean finish.
O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a refreshing crisp + relatively clean mouthfeel. Enjoyable with lots of roasty malt presence and minimal sweetness.

Thanks to Mbgreg. Received in NBS BIF #15
Pours a deep charred mahogany. Khaki head asserts nearly three inches. After a minute or so it retreats to a scattered thin cap and consistent ring. Minimal lacing.
Nose is mildly roasty and earthy with muted hints of brown bread.
Flavor starts off with the roast, and brown bread notes but also carries the a most gentle nod in the direction of fig.
Mouthfeel is just shy of medium, has decent carbonation (although it seemed a bit prickly a few minutes in, but that faded), and finishes dry.
Overall, a decent ride.
