Collaboration with Halfway Crooks Beer
Belgian-Style Pilsner

A little something to lean on. When the knees begin to tremble. Just the dose of reaffirmation we were seeking. Belgium plays a special role in the tale of Burial. Doug, Jess, and Tim visited 15 years ago and after that trip, built a homebrewing system. Years later, Jess and Doug returned, after meeting Joran Van Ginderachter at Halfway Crooks, and paid a visit to his family's sheep farm. With that trip in mind, we've crafted this Belgian-Style Pilsner together for Burial's 12th Anniversary. Mashed with Belgian Pilsen Malt from Dingemans. And hopped with Brewers Gold.

Picked up a single from the Burial South Slope cooler on 6-20-25 for $4.00. Canned 18 JUN 2025; consumed 7-23-25. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured gold with a beautiful white head that is leaving lacing behind.

Nose is biscuit forward with a small dose of herbal hops.

Taste is pilsener malt forward that delivers a biscuit dominated flavor. The hopping brings a wood dominated flavor that takes over the Pilsen malt and finishes with not a pepper but a coriander like bitterness; 7/10 on my scale.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and very creamy smooth.

Overall, definitely a different take on the Pilsner style, this was fun to evaluate!

Did not intend on having this today, but a can sprung a leak while I was loading everything into the fridge, so...

Pours gold with a solid head of white foam. The foam didn't last too long, but that could be because of the situation. Didn't even use the ideal glass. Smells crisp and clean, similar taste. Crackery, biscuity, yeasty, light, easy to drink. A touch of Belgian influence, but perhaps not as noticeable as some will expect. Finishes with a slight sweet, dry creamyness and a gentle hops bite.

I will rereview this when I have a proper pour next time.
