Double barrel-aged vanilla bean barleywine
Continuance is our series of blended imperial stouts, barleywines and other spirit barrel-aged beers. Blended exclusively for our friends at The Wine and Cheese Place, this vintage is a blend of select barrels of Double Barrel-Aged M.J.K. which were aged in oak for 21 to 31 months and then finished on a light enhancement of Mexican vanilla beans.

Insanely great barleywine. Smooth barrel and sweet vanilla taste, some dark fruit. Draft pours nearly black with brown highlights and no head. Oak barrel aroma.

poured from a 750mL bottle into a snifter. pours your typical barleywine light puddle water brown but gathers in the glass a little more mahogany looking. no foam to speak of. beautiful nose of bourbon, oak, sweet vanilla and light dark fruits. touch of toffee and caramel as it warms. just the right touch of bourbon sting as it hits room temperature. taste is vanilla, toffee, caramel, light chocolate and even lighter dark fruits. thick, luscious mouthfeel with a lower level of carbonation. doesn’t drink anywhere near the 16% ABV it carries. delicious and ridiculously complex barrel-aged barleywine. it reveals new layers of aromas and flavors as it warms.

Sweet vanilla and chocolate flavors up front, followed by a wave of bourbon heat that lingers on the palate. Well-balanced and smooth. This is more of a vanilla stout than a barleywine, though.

#WickedBeerSideProjectShare2021. Amazing how distinctly different from Blend #1. Rich, sweet vanilla comes out in every facet of this beer. The barrel heat is clearly noticeable but also restrained. An awesome side by side with MJK.
