Single Thread is our yearly release exclusively for our La Coterie members. For the 2023 blending, we chose to entwine threads of Oude Fermier fermented on marionberries which was then blended in a Bière de Coupage style with a younger Missouri saison. Single Thread was aged an extended period of time in the bottle before we felt it was ready to share with you.

There's a fantastic deep ruby hue to this saison. Fluffy white head builds to about a finger, with good retention. Residual waves of lace decorate the glass as the foam slowly falls.
The nose bursts with notes of tart blackberries and oaky funk. There'sa good balance of fruit and mustiness, with a complex herbaceous / woody quality that continues to increase in prominence with time and temperature. Occasionally I was getting random punches of cheesiness that would come and go.
The palate is dry and tart. The oaky barrel character greets first, with the fruit taking a back seat and adding more tannin than flavor. Musty, mildly earthy tones come to the forefront with continued sipping.
The mouthfeel to this beer takes center stage; drying oak, tannin, and a touch of pucker. Seltzery effervescence softens and prevents excessive acidity. Really hits its stride after about 15 mins in the glass.

poured from a 750mL bottle into a stemless wine glass. pours a beautiful light crimson with a fluffy two fingers of off-white foam head. smells of musty oak, white wine, jammy berries, even a bit of funk. taste mostly follows but the marionberries give off a little spice which with the acidity of this beer just sends it a little over the top. thick, full mouthfeel. this thing hits its stride around room temperature for me. although the acidity levels are still fairly high, it seems to mellow out a bit compared to slightly chilled.
