King Tide Saison, by Persephone and Driftwood, 8.6% poured into a pint from a 650mL bomber.
Picked up because Driftwood usually delivers and have heard good things from Persephone
L: Darker than I expected for a saison. Darker shade of gold, 1 finger of head and little lacing.
S: You can smell the malt. Also tones of green apple and pear
T: Malt and fruit stand out, tastes just like it smells. Thick for a saison. Flavor is really nice, has a strong weird aftertaste tho.
OV: Not what I was expecting at all. For sure a different take on a saison. That being said it was something quite different from the norm and props for that.

Bottle: Poured a hazy orangey color ale with a rather large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of residuals sugar and a somewhat heavy malt presence with light hops notes. Taste is dominated by a heavy malt base with some residual sugar, light floral ester and some light fruity hops notes. Body is full and heavier then I had expected for the style with good carbonation. A bit too heavy for the style and lacking some attenuation.

Persephone/Driftwood 'King Tide Saison' @ 8.6% , served from a 650 ml bottle purchased for $8
A-pour is gold from the bottle to a clear gold in the glass with a medium size white head leaving a fine spotty lace along the chalice
S-Brasserie Dupont yeast
T-smooth tasting saison , mango fruit swallow
MF-ok carbonation , big body of beer (the abv is kinda well hidden)
Ov-kinda liked it , not so Belgian of a saison more PNW

Appearance: A hazy burnt orange/raw sienna with a good finger and a half of off-white coloured head. Loose and midway between frothy and creamy foam, it has a good retention and leaves behind a light lace.
Aromas:
Lots of sweetness. Some caramel malt and honey florals. Touches of vanilla, in a tropical fruit smoothie. Gives me flashbacks to having a Willie Woozle as a kid (similar to an Orange Julius but WAY better).
Taste: I think the yeast is very identifiable here, not that it stands out, but it offers it's own flavour enhancement to the more woody and nutty aspects of the brew. It has a unique blend for sure, I'm just not sure where to place some of the flavours. Light tastes of caramel and raw bread dough, almond, and even a hint of peppery spice. It's rather perplexing (but in a good way), as I'm not sure if it is a complex relationship or merely complicated.
Mouthfeel: A good middleweight with some slickness, and light buttery body that also carries a fairly active carbonation. The finish is somewhere between clean and sweet and slightly warming booziness, and I'm not sure that feel ever really leaves once you get in a few sips.
Overall: What a great matchup - I love both Driftwood and Persephone, and this is a super collab imho. Though it does lack an incy wincy bit in the aroma and finish, all-in-all it's a good saison, and absolutely fits a casual quite Autumn evening.
Pairing: I'm hankering for some smooth jazz, a lap flannel blanket, and soft or dimmed lighting, just rocking slowly in my chair. I want to snack on some lightly buttered and salted popcorn, just one kernel at a time - no company, no idle chit chat, just me and my beer.... sigh...
