Pours a dark reddish brown with a 1/2F head and light filmy lacing.
Smells and tastes of sweet bready toasted malt, chocolate and caramel with a lightly bitter finish.
Medium body with light carbonation. Lightly syrupy, dry mouthfeel.
This is a very drinkable sweet malty brew that lacks the banana and spicy nuances in European versions.

(16 oz can, 021626; purchased cold 4-pack at the brewery this week... poured then later topped off into a Teku)
L: crimson/ruby colored liquid, decent clarity; lots of dense, silky foam, crumbling in a craggy sponge... head all but dissipates, little collar left, little lacing
S: dark caramel with a hint of dark dried fruit jam, hint of deep toast to the grain, undertone of dark bread crust... pretty textbook and excellent expression and intensity... note of cocoa, molasses cookie
T: much of the nose translates to the palate, with the toasty decoction character amplifying and unfurling, met with a bold, herbal hop bitterness in the aftertaste... aftertaste gets remarkably dry a few moments into it, with a subtle bubblegum / allspice note at the back
F: a bit (too) hard cut, clean, and dry... the alcohol essence is on point, but I'm missing some body, roundness, residual legs.. the palate roof is under constant tannic tingle... it gets a little silkier as the carbonation wafts off
O: mad potent with decoction crustiness, very dry and easy drinking, wish it had more (sweet) malty underbelly; got all the tantalizing top notes... I'll certainly enjoy the last two cans (2528)

Picked up a single 16oz can yesterday, at The Beer Store Nashua, for $5.10.... canned 03MAR25...
Enjoyed outside on the back deck in lovely 60's temps...
Poured into a Stange, it was a beauteous, clear ruby-garnet color. Had some steady carbo within, and a slightly rocky, creamy layer of tan foam up top. Started at about 1/2" before ebbing to a covering layer, with light lacing. Aroma? MALT! Had great semi-sweet caramel and toffee action, reminding me lots of Andechs Doppelbock. Body was medium to medium-plus, with some light prickle on the tongue.
Flavor was more malt! Toffee and caramel sweetness once more, though nothing close to being cloying. Had some subtle earthy, floral hopping in the tasty finish. Well-made, Schilling!! Prost!!
