Moving right along with the Fonta Flora trade from brentk56, we have yet another Kvass. The first one was strange but good, and this one it sounds even more strange. Pumpernickel bread? Sure. Aged in oak? I guess. Third use cherries? Why third use?? Coffee beans? Might as well with everything else going on here. Let’s get into it
Pours a cloudy reddish brown with a finger of light tan head that quickly fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
Oh wow, the first whiff gives the impression of a lightly funky Kriek, definitely cherry forward but with a nice sweetness to it. I’m picking up on aromas of tart cherry, medium roast coffee, cocoa powder, pumpernickel toast, herbal hops, vanilla, and light charred oak
It’s a bit less Kriek influenced in taste, the grain comes through more but it still has a nice balance. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting tart cherry, spent coffee beans, toasted grain, honey, smooth oak, dark bread, and light vanilla. The swallow brings notes of spent coffee beans, cherry candy, pie crust, pumpernickel toast, vanilla, and light herbal hops
A light body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a crisp and tart beer. Finishes neutral and balanced
This is completely different from the other Kvass I tried, but it is quite good. Super unique stuff here and I’m happy I have 3 more
