Collaboration with The Veil Brewing Co.

Berry Compote is a Berliner conditioned on blackberries, raspberries, vanilla, maple and waffles. Like Big Brekkie, this breakfast selection was concocted during our epic NZ hop selection trip with @brewish. As you can imagine we've added extra berry and extra compote to make this even bigger and badder than the original.

Picked this up at Other Half recently as I was eager to give this a go. The original was a fun beer and I was hoping that this would be bit stronger and more intense. That wasn't the case, except for the alcohol, as this was a bit stronger but this was a fun beer regardless of that, as the label alone was enough to make me smile!

Of course, this had a berry hue to it as there seemed to be a bit of acetate in the appearance as it was somewhat cloudy in appearance. No sediment was in the liquid or at the bottom of my glass but there was quite few big clumps as I washed out my can after pouring all of this out; as the head was small and the lacing nonexistent. Lots of waffle batter, blackberry, raspberry, and sticky fruit sweetness in the muted nose as the taste felt like a fermented breakfast food. Vanilla and whipped cream sweetness fit in nicely with the compote as I couldn't taste the maple as much as the lip-smacking sweetness stayed around long after the last sip went down.

Canned on 1/26 with "JUST DESSERTS" written underneath that, there was plenty of body to this without a lot of carbonation to take a bit of the edge off. While this beer wouldn't please everyone and was not a traditional Berliner Weisse, this was lots of fun for those that appreciate a dessert beer that didn't fit the traditional mode. I only rated it this low because it wasn't any better than the original, even with the changes...
