2023 vintage; consumed on 4/30/2024
Pours a near-viscous motor-oil hue capped with just shy of a finger of dark khaki foam; solid head retention yields a vague cap, massive, creamy collar, and minimal-no lacing clinging to the walls of the glass.
Aromas waft toasty caramel and big barrel char as dark fruit intermingles with advancing cocoa powder prior to sweet toffee doused in bourbon lingering through the back end of the bouquet.
Taste offers sticky caramel doused in prune and myriad dark fruit subtext as dark chocolate lingers through the charry bourbon barrel layers of the mid-palate and a raisin reduction fades on the finish.
Mouthfeel brings a thick body, creamy in texture and sporting a minimalist fluff of lower end carbonation; warming barrel tannins contrast a general stickiness as char is interspersed progressively across a slick back end.
Awash in rich dark fruit and a balancing, barrel-soaked cocoa, a one-track intensity defines a brazenly sweet base against an amply oaked overlay.
