Crop Year 2017; the name of a new series of beers designed to catalog our impression of this year's hop varieties. In this inaugural batch, we explore 2017's Mosaic & Citra crop; needless to say it's extremely bright and fruity with as much tropical character as we could hope for. Base beer is a squeaky clean & crisp strong American pale lager. Burp HOPS!

This is a strong lager that is all about the hops. Pours a crystalline golden tan. Light, bright white foam. Incredible aroma. Just incredible. Green onion/catty notes in a good way, with a crisp clean finish. Maybe me want to explore more of Alvarado's lagers.

16oz can, served in a willi becher glass. Pour is slightly cloudy and unfiltered golden body, one finger white head, good retention, medium collar, trace lacing. Smell is heavy on the citra and mosaic for sure- grapefruit, citrus, tropical fruits abound, fairly herbal. A bit of sweet bread and biscuit as well. Flavour is a bit sweeter and has more herbal bitterness on the finish. Fair bit of sweet breadiness and some sugar. It's a fairly heavy sweetness, not like a fruit sweetness. It kind of gets in the way of the drinkability here, though I imagine they had to put some sweetness for balance. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, good carbonation, a fair bit of bready sweetness on the finish that lingers for a while, somewhat untouched by the herbal bitterness.

Golden brew with plenty of foam in the Piraat tulip. Remarkable nose of lime peel and mango. Light body but malty and almost winey. Spritzy but you could ask for just a little more. Pleasing sweetness lets the aromatics glow. This is balanced in every way, with fruit and a touch of acidity, plus the endless citrus fragrance.
This is just really delicious. These two great hops are used with restraint here and I don't believe I've had a better beer that featured them both. Well maybe Booming Rollers from Modern Times. From the 16 oz can purchased at Bottlecraft in Liberty Station.

With no experience in IPL's, I had no idea what to expect with this. Fortunately, as with ASB's other non-haze offerings, this was terrific. It had a really high drinkability factor and was extremely crisp and refreshing. The hop flavor and bite were perfect, nice hop resin, grassy/dank/lemon notes. Light malt backing. Superb.
