Our drier, decidedly “tropical” IPA that’s light on bitterness, but heavy on hop aroma, courtesy of 100% Mosaic hops. One whiff and you get super intense notes of passion fruit, mango, and lychee. Grain bill of just American two-row malt and a clean fermentation keep it simple and allow these hops to shine.

Glass: Melvin 14-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
Price: $25.99 for a mixed 4-pack
From: Blind Lady Ale House in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: Feb. 21, 2021
Consumed: Feb. 22, 2021
Misc.: Canned on Feb. 2, 2021
Bought an Alvarado Street mixed 4-pack when I saw it available at Blind Lady Ale House. I love that BLAH is doing these lately as I’m on their website every day. Would be my first time having this, but gave a Mai Tai P.A. a 4.25 on Untappd (three times, but never a full review on Beer Advocate), Mega Mai Tai a 4.00 on Untappd and Mai Tai White Label a 4.33 on Beer Advocate. Untappd description called it “Our drier, decidedly “tropical” IPA that’s light on bitterness, but heavy on hop aroma, courtesy of 100% Mosaic hops. Poured a pale yellow clear color with two fingers of frothy white head. Plenty of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. World-class spiderweb foamy lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled Mosaic, floral, rose blossom, mango, tangerine, guava, passion fruit, pine, mixed berry and grapefruit rind. Smelled a little better out of the can. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted a little better than the nose. Got huge Mosaic, dry grass, tangerine rind, floral, rose blossom, passion fruit, mango, guava, mixed berry, peppery spice, pine, grapefruit and lemon zest. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.75)
Just an excellent West Coast IPA. (Overall - 4.25)

Sweet, tropical hoppy and tropical mosaic dank nose on this one! Taste follows with a clean and crisp, slightly malty, trop-hoppy bitter finish...the bitter bite is a subtle one here. This is very balanced and really tasty!

Fresh drop from AJ’s Soquel, ca.
Just accentuates the regular mai tai.
Mai Tai is all mosaic, and the ddh version is essentially the same. Maybe extra pineapple and dank.
For reference: I like regular mai tai, hated double mai tai.

Can poured into an Alvarado Street Brewery glass
A: Pours slightly hazy golden yellow with a frothy off white head that settles to a firm layer that hangs around and leaves some dense lacing.
S: Vibrant tropical fruit, zesty citrus, floral, biscuity malt, and caramel honey sweetness.
T: Zesty citrus, lemon and a touch of tangerine, big tropical fruit, guava, papaya, soft passion fruit, and lychee, floral notes, a hint of bubble gum, biscuity bready malt, and caramel honey sweetness.
M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, somewhat soft on the palate.
O: It's been a little while since I've had the standard version, but this feels a little softer. Good stuff!

Canned 2/4/19
L: Hazy yellow in color. A finger of head with mild lacing.
S: Grass upfront, with healthy amounts of lemon, tangerine and pine.
T: Follows the nose. Grass flavor prominent throughout. Fruit flavors of lemon, pineapple, grapefruit and tangerine all present. Finish is rather hoppy with lingering grass/pine complexity. Really enjoyable.
F: Light in body and in weight. Really nice feel and smooth to drink. Moderate carbonation for the style.
O: At 6.8 abv, what is not to like. Packed with flavor and allows you to be productive. This is great, and I would drink again. I am super glad to have tried. Cheers!
