Black Wheat - Vanilla

I had this on draught at the brewery. It pours a pretty mahogany color with a foamy, ecru-colored head and lacing with nice retention. The color is unique: something between cola and walnut. The smell features coffee, char, nuts, and a hint of chocolate. The taste features burnt coffee, char, tobacco smoke, vanilla, and pepper at the finish. I didn't expect the bitterness at the finish but it really adds to the taste. It has a fairly creamy mouth feel with light carbonation, and is an easy drinker at 5% ABV. Overall, I liked the vanilla version of Black Wheat better than the original. The vanilla is pleasant but not overly strong and the pepper at the finish gives the beer a nice kick.
