File under: beers I thought would be awesome but was kind of let down. Drank September 2015.
Big hottenroth fan here, maybe biggest in the world, I know I've bought several cases in my time. This was one of those one bottle only beers. Pours yellow with a haze and 1/2" white head on it. Looks the same as regulare Hottenroth. Aroma had the wheat smack, but also the mango note, which was a little different than when you have some mango added ipas, this was less sweet, but more 'plastic' in the nose.
Taste also had a similar 'weirdness' from the mango character. It wasn't 'bad' per se, but it just wasn't a mango flavor I've been used to, in or out of beer. Still pushes plenty of tart lip smacking wheat qualities to it, but also a plastic chalkiness that isn't in the regulare. Still lots of lemon like notes to it.
Even though I liked strawberry & vanilla and the peach hottenroth more, this is still worthy, despite being in last place of the hottenroths. I really wish instead of the fruited frucht series they did it for hottenroth. Its a better berliner.

A: Poured into a chalice to a cloudy light orange topped by a finger of white head that fades quickly leaving no trace
S: Smells of lactic sourness, creamy wheat and some mango fruitiness
T: Tasting this beer brings a nice acetic pucker at the front followed by some creamy wheat flavors and some nice mango notes. Swallow is mangoes, lingering acetic tartness and some more wheat
M: This is medium in body likely from the extra compounds from adding the mangoes. Carbonation level is adequate and just a hair under prickly. The beer has a nice dry finish from the acidity.
O: This was panned pretty hard initially but it seems like it's drinking very well now. Mango flavors complement the base beer nicely but I can see how some could be disappointed.

2014 vintage
L - Pours a cloudy orange body. Looks like no pulp orange juice. Fizzy one finger eggshell colored head dissipates quickly.
S - Nice mango forward smell with a lightly tart base. Not getting any grain from the hottenroth.
T - Mango pulp and lactic acid. Light wheat grain. I really like it. So much juicy pucker factor here.
F - Light bodied & medium carbonation. Was hoping for a bit more carbonation.
O - This one must have turned the corner since the initial release. I'm really liking it, so much mango.

Major disappointment. A bit turbid look, little head retention. Mango rushed out of the bottle and then, poof, like an unreliable genie, went absentee without granting me the wish of a delicious beer. Beer then comes across as simply tart and heavy on the wet wheat bread. I'veheard they've fine tuned with later fruited versions of Hottenroth but, like adding ground effects and wings to your 3-Series, this was a significant downshift from the base model.

Initial 5 minutes of this beer were great. Mango smell comes out and stands out against beer in a unique way. Then everything blends together and things just become meh. Not bad, but not anything great.

Pours an orangeish yellow. Slight head pops up momentarily, then quickly retreats. Interestingly lighter on the sour smell than the base beer. More mango and even slight orange scent comes through. Taste is a mix of pulpy mango, orange, some sour lactic notes, and a slight earthiness. FInish is slightly slick, and a slightly vinegary culmination. I know this has been a polarizing beer but I like it.
