On tap at Himmeriget.

Pours jet black with a little bit of tan head.

Smell is sweet with notes of chocolate, coffee and... a slightly strange meatiness.

Taste starts rich and sweet with notes of coffee and chocolate with some hints of fudge. A slight bitterness follows along with a slight meaty, smoky hint.

Mouthfeel is medium to full, smooth and soft with good carbonation.

Overal, a very nice stout, with some slightly odd elements.

Canned on 2019-10-31. Picked it up at the NW location.

Pours black, thick, small head, medium amount of carbonation. Smell is rich coffee. Roast. Sweetness.

Taste is not as sweet as I feared -- sweet, though. I poured myself a pint of this, and I don't think I'll find it oppressive at the end. Hazelnut comes across, reminding me vaguely of the old, old days when I used to put hazelnut flavor creamer in my coffee.

Mouthfeel is thick and velvety. Overall, nice beer.

On tap at the brewery.

Black with a dark brown head that falls off rapidly leaving little lacing this looks solid. The nose has tons of roasted hazelnut, some vanilla, gobs of chocolate and a really wonderfully deep and delicious coffee note. Dark, brooding yet nimble and mildly fruity. Mild maple notes as well. A mild cereal note is present as well. The palate opens massively sweet with tons of breakfast syrup, vanilla, a mild buttery note and an inexplicable roasted hazelnut skin bitterness. Super sweet with caramel, brown sugar, dark honey, biscuit. Over the top. Alcohol is obscured by the unreal sweetness here. Good Lord, this is borderline undrinkable.

From a Crowler.

Pours pitch black, clean, and rather flat. Only a few brown bubbles form from a vigorous pour.

Big on the coffee and nutty aromas. A dark roasted bread of the dessert varity beckons from below.

The hazelnuts really come through in the flavor. Almost giving off a syrup like note possibly from a brown sugar and chocolatey influences. Either way, it's a nice combination that works well. Plenty of coffee once again.

Rather flat and a bit thin feeling, but still silky smooth. Good amount of roast and coffee bitterness to offset the syrupy like sweetness.

Another good stout from Great Notion. Reminds me a lot of Double Stack. Perhaps they're related. More like cousins than brothers, I'd guess.

Cheers.

Very dark brown appearance with small tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a very pleasant malt hazelnut and chocolate. Taste is slightly sweet that is identical to aroma with a slight touch of coffee.
