So Wrong is a new twist on a classic. We brewed this IPA with Pilsner malt, oats, wheat and rye. During fermentation we added some delicious clover honey and finished it off with a a huge Citra dry hop.

Type: 16-oz. can

Glass: North Park 9-oz. butterscotch snifter glass
Price: $6.29
From: Windmill Farms in San Diego (Del Cerro), Calif.
Purchased: Jan. 11, 2023
Consumed: Jan. 13, 2023
Misc.: Canned on Nov. 25, 2022

Went to Windmill Farms looking for new North Park releases. Found one of the two, and also grabbed this and two other stouts. Great Notion’s website called this “So Wrong is a new twist on a classic. We brewed this IPA with Pilsner malt, oats, wheat and rye. During fermentation we added some delicious clover honey and finished it off with a huge Citra dry hop.”

Poured a light golden hazy color with four fingers of frothy white head. Could see a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Excellent foamy lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled Citra, pineapple, grapefruit, cotton candy, tropical fruit, orange rind, melon, lemon, honey and hints of herbal. A little better each whiff. Really nice from the can as well. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose but still outstanding. In order got Citra, pineapple, grapefruit, cotton candy, honey, orange rind, melon and lemon. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.50)

This one really grew on me. Just an outstanding hazy IPA. (Overall - 4.25)

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass

A: Pours hazy yellow with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and laces nicely.

S: Plenty of ripe tropical and stone fruit, floral notes, juicy citrus, slightly grassy, a touch of peppery rye spice, biscuity malt, and caramel honey sweetness.

T: Big tropical and stone fruit, mango, pineapple, peach, apricot, passion fruit, and a hint of melon, floral notes, juicy citrus, orange/tangerine, lime, and lemon, peppery rye spice, biscuity malt, and caramel honey sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, soft on the palate with just a hint of hop burn.

O: Always fun to try another Ripe variant. Rye and honey add some extra layers of depth and complexity to an already great beer. I still prefer the original, but I'd happily drink more of this.

Canned 08/07/23

Appearance - Pours hazy and straw yellow in color with a white, near finger width head that dies down somewhat quickly, leaving a thin, broken layer of suds with a more prominent ring around the edge of the glass. A few broken lines and small spotting makes up the sparse lacing.

Smell - Light and bright. Mild pineapple and orange. Faint floral aroma.

Taste - Follows the nose. Light, but with a nice profile. Starts off with mild pineapple, then essence of orange and lemon. Floral undertones; honeysuckle. Flavors get stronger as it gets warmer, as with more beers, but still maintains a nice balance. Aftertaste lingers with pineapple, floral notes and, as it warms, a trace of honey sweetness.

Mouthfeel - Light-to-medium in body with light, fuzzy carbonation. Slick, smooth drinker.

Overall - It's a solid hazy. If I didn't read the can I wouldn't have known honey was added. IMO, that's a good thing (looking at you, Bell's Hopslam). It really adds a nice touch to the brew without being a prominent presence. It took me half the can but honeysuckle is the most apt description that comes to mind. It does tend to come out more as it warms, but not in a cloying way that honey can sometimes do.

Poured from a 16 ounce can into a teku glass.

Look- Pale straw, very hazy, sudsy white head, average head retention and lacing.

Smell- Clementine, melon, slightly dank, medium strength of scent.

Taste- Clementine, melon, peach, moderately sweet honey finish, medium strength of flavor.

Feel- Medium body, slightly above average carbonation, low bitterness, highly creamy, soft.

Overall- This beer provided an enjoyable drinking experience, but the flavor was not as vibrant as desired. Also, the bouquet and flavor were fairly simple, but still pleasant.

Pours a cloudy straw yellow with a finger of head that dissipates to a thin ring with a little lacing. Aroma of pineapple and citrus. Taste follows nose. Juicy.

delicious, heavy, but delicious. neat to see these guys pushing hazy ipa forward, even if it kind of feels like a little goes a long way with this one, and so awesome to have it at what i believe is the original location, up on alberta, been wanting to check this place out for ages and finally got to make it happen, so mellow for how far and wide this beer and its reputation has spread! unexpected. anyway this is my favorite of the hoppy ones we had in here, thick to look at, muted pale orange tone, starchy, but high headed from the tap and carbonated well enough to not drink enormous. this is smart in a couple of ways, i think the mixed grain base rules, the rye especially, less common than it should be in these big dry hoppy ones, and it plays interesting with the citra, bringing a little more spice and oomph to the back half, but also seemingly giving a cool springboard to the citra, like its more intense and long lasting here than is common. i like the way the oats smooth this out too. the coolest part of this though is the honey in the ferment, its floral and has flavor (and texture) of its own, but i have long said citra can be one dimensional on its own and is best used with other varietals, but here the honey seems to act as the other varietals, bringing more out of the hops too, i get the pollen and waxy rawness of good honey, also cut flowers, lemongrass, sweet orange, drippy ripe melon, and tangerine. only a little bit of green hop bite to this, low bitterness but just a toe over the line in terms of saturation, common in great notion ipa types but unoffensive in this one, its just part of their signature. the fermentation is clean but the beer is off dry, the honey and the oats and wheat extend this nicely, a long pleasant finish where the hops open up a lot, very springy for being this full bodied, almost creamy. really cool beer, i like it more as i sip on it, and this is up there with their best hoppy beers ive encountered so far, although my experience with their stuff is still super limited in relation to how many beers they produce! really good stuff here!

Exceptionally delicious New England style IPA. Avant garde with its yeast and hop game and on the stronger side at 7%. Not what many expect when reaching for a clear, piney, malty brew.

Super soft and fine fizz on the palate while being super full and almost too thick- just right for me. Take me to champagne fizz hoppy yeasty oat town bb. Quick head drawing down to a near champagne like rim leaving no lacing.

I absolutely love the citrussy hop burn that overflows with tropical and berry explosions in aroma and in flavor. Dank ripe vegetal gardens, valencia orange, papaya, strawberry, mango, starfruit, faint spruce tip. They really play so nicely with the bready wheat/pils and zippy peppery rye malts. Wonderful balance there. Dry and very crispy, considering.

What’s really special here is the partial use of honey during fermentation. Not sweet at all! Amazing skill. It drives a wonderful floral flowery complexity and rich fullness that makes this one really stand out to me. Yum! Do beware delicate to temperature and could easily spoil at wrong temps or kegs being too warm. Thank you GN and distributors! And Cheers, lovely rascals.

Fantastic GN offering in my opinion; bright hazy straw/orange - very tropical and zesty/pungent, with impressions of stone fruit, white wine, lemon-lime citrus, grapefruit...excellent stuff.

L: Poured from a tallboy can to a pint glass. Had a pale yellow color and an extremely cloudy consistency. There was a quarter inch of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Above average lacing.

S: A very good aroma of hops, citrus fruit, honey, malt, and tropical fruit.

T: Tasted of a small amount of malt (mostly in the finish; overpowered by the other elements), a nice little shot of honey (kind of sweet), a good amount of dank hops (pungent, but not obnoxious), a lot of citrus fruit (orange, especially), and some tropical fruit (pineapple). This is a solidly made, well done flavor. Pretty tasty.

F: A well-carbonated beer with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: One the whole, a likable, easy to drink IPA. Worth a look.
