Canned 2/25/20 "Pastry is as pastry does" stamped on the side of the can

Here's another woemad BIF beer, but one he told me was forgotten in his fridge for a few years. Given the abv, I'm sure it has held up well over the years, but I have to imagine the adjuncts are pretty faded. Let's crack it open and find out

Pours almost completely pitch black with 2 fingers of creamy tan head that fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing

As expected, it's a bit washed out in the nose, but certainly not bad at all. I'm picking up on aromas of dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, vanilla, burnt caramel, black cherry, light molasses, and roasted peanut

Actually it is still quite vibrant in taste, very fruity and nutty. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting tart cherry, cacao nib, dark roast coffee, roasted hazelnut, molasses, burnt caramel, light raisin, and vanilla. The swallow brings notes of cacao nib, charred malt, dark roast coffee, black cherry, roasted hazelnut, vanilla, light caramel, and molasses

A full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes a tad sticky but nothing that hurts the drinkability

Well, color me surprised. If I had this blind, I wouldn't say it was exactly fresh, but I sure as hell wouldn't say it's from a pre-covid era. God that's a weird way to think about it. Good stuff tho

16oz tallboy can purchased at Community Pint in Spokane, Washington. Stamped on the rim of the can: "Pastry Is As Pastry Does. 02/25/20."

Poured into a tulip glass, this was the color of inky shadows, with a rather thin, khaki colored head that dropped quickly.

Chocolate and hazelnuts dominate the nose, as I rather expected. There's a little bit of a roasty, bitter char scent as well. No sign of the cherries in the aroma.

The adjuncts rule the initial taste. Things are very chocolaty and nutty. Then the cherries weigh in. Chocolate covered cherries aren't a bad thing to taste, unless, I suppose, you're eating chicken, and I'd still give it a shot. The bitter, roasty note from the nose is present in the background. It's not very strong, just hinting at a coffee like taste and keeping things from being too desserty. Finishes sweet and creamy.

Fairly full bodied, with a luscious, creamy mouthfeel.

I really liked this as a dessert beer. Having it after dinner following a pasta dish on what is my Sunday is a real treat.
