Pours a beautiful translucent amber with 2 fingers of off white foam. Nose is bitter roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and some bitter/tart hop. Taste follows suit with a tart finish. Feel is velvety and full. Good beer.

Canned on 7/9/21; consumed on 12/21/21
Pours a glossy, jet-mahogany sheen in the glass and is capped with two fingers of uniform, beige foam; solid head retention leaves a paper-thin cap, moderate, frothy collar, and sparse, firm strands of webby lacing around the walls of the glass.
Aroma opens to a raisin twang into softer caramel and sparks of roast toward the middle, where brown bread crusts lean into hints of fig before a dusting of cocoa and mild apple core lingers on the close.
Taste features cocoa light upfront with a quiet roast interspersed and dark fruit progressing over mid-palate; a tinge of raisin finds faded bread crusts with a mild milk chocolate sweetness on the back end and vaguely metallic undertones lingering through the finish.
Mouthfeel offers a medium-light body with a moderate-high spritz of carbonation extending over the mid-palate, leaving a steady prickle and moderate crispness into a drying back end sporting a rounded, creamy finish.
Decent though inconsistent depth to a sweeter cocoa undertone and soft char find the prevalent, semi-tart dark fruits distracting, an overall hindrance to the evolving roast of the malt profile leaving this take on a Dunkel somewhat faulty and plain.

No can date
Big frothy creamy 1.5 finger head with med retention, fair lacing, dark ruby to mahogany color,
Nose schwarzbier like, roast, coffee little cocoa, grainy biscuity note, touch acrid
Taste more roast, cocoa coffee, smooth dark malt, little biscuit cereal grain, light herbal hop, drier finish
Mouth is med to lighter bod, med carb, mild soft lager
Overall a decent Munich dunkel, although a bit light and more like schwarzbier, but good

16-ounce draft enjoyed at Great Notion's Beaverton location. Poured into a Willi Becher glass
Look:
The body is a crystal clear deep red-brown with amber highlights. There wasn't much head left by the time the waitress brought the beer to my table. Just a thick off-white ring which left minimal scraps of lacing.
Smell:
Moderate caramel sweetness with roast malt and a hint of coffee. Not very bready, and it lacks that succulent Munich malt depth.
Taste:
Starts with the caramel sweetness promised by the nose, along with dark roasty malt. The roast diminishes through the middle, but the sweetness persists. As with the nose, there's not much Munich malt character here. Finishes semi-dry with a mild earthy note. Some caramel sweetness lingers in the aftertaste.
Feel:
The body is a shade heavier than light, and has a pleasing smooth texture and brisk carbonation.
Overall:
Great Notion Puffery (Munich Dunkel) is a bit of a one-note beer. It has a decent caramel sweetness that carries through the nose and flavor, but I'd prefer more Munich malt breadiness and a drier finish. Not a great dunkel, but still an enjoyable beer, and likely a good palate cleanser in between their hazy IPAs and dessert-like stouts.
