Jam Band burst onto the scene this year as an improvised fusion of dark berry flavors and zippy citrus chords. The rhythmic grooves of blueberry, raspberry and tart cherry accompany a simple malt base to create an easy-drinking, all-season beer worthy of an encore.

The slightly hazed deep ruby reddish-pink colored beer pours out into a Duvel glass with a 3/4” pink head that recedes slowly, leaving lots of lacing on the sides of the glass. Sipping creates arches and lots of small patches and legs of lacing. By mid-way through the beer there’s still lots of lacing on the sides of the glass and a thin, irregular island of foam on the surface of the liquid.

The aromas definitely are filled with multiple berries. There’s also a bit of bready malt along with a light touch of citric hops.

The flavors are pretty much as expected from the nose with lots of berries in the mix. The berries here include raspberries, cherries and blueberries. The berries are backed up by some bready sweetness from the malt. There’s also a bit of cherry tartness along with a light touch of citric, earthy bitterness from the hops.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly crisp and creamy from the finely bubbled and moderate carbonation. The finish begins as the sweetness begins to fade a bit to be followed by the berries. As the berry sweetness recedes the cherry tartness moves forward a bit and migrates towards the back of the palate where it pairs with the citric hops to finish up the long semi-dry ending.

Overall an enjoyable fruit beer that for me would work best in the summer. It’s refreshing and has lots of berry flavors. In some ways this beer reminds me a lot of one of my summer berry breakfasts which include a mix of raspberries, blueberries, and sometimes a few tart cherries. I’ll probably be having more of each this summer and think the beer would be a nice one to have on offer for after dinner during a summer party that includes folks who don’t think they like beer. That all said, it’s not a beer I’d drink more than one of at a time just as I’m not going to have two bowls of berries for breakfast.

12oz can with dates, came in the variety pack

Looks purple, just like the can. Smells like sweet hard candy, or raspberry jam. Taste is very similar, with a breadth of fruit flavors resting on top of a malty pillow

A very tasty fruit beer, balanced, not too sweet, and with a variety of flavor

Presentation: 12 oz. can with the canning date etched on the bottom. Served in a Rastal Harmony tumbler.

Appearance: The dense, pink colored, one and a half finger head stays around for a long time and leaves behind a lot of lacing that covers the entire glass. It's a hazy, pure red color when held up to light.
3.50 Smell: It's a sweet, slightly musty smell of ripe raspberries and canned cherries.

Taste: It's juicy and fruity with notes of raspberry, cherry and a hint of blueberries in the background. It's mostly sweet but there's some sour tartness that comes through as well.

Mouthfeel: It's quite light and moderately smooth with a touch of creaminess. Carbonation is low.

Overall: It's a simple, easy to drink, fruity beer that doesn't blast the palate with sourness or sweetness. It does a good job of offering pleasant fruit flavors without overwhelming the senses.
