16 oz. Can
CANNED ON: 05/25/22
Poured into a Tree House glass a pretty nice cloudy dark yellow/light tan color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger plus off-white head, which also leaves a pretty nice small island, and some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, melon, peach, papaya, apricot, strawberry), pretty nice vanilla, pretty nice little diesel like. The taste is very nice, hoppy, malty, with a very nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, melon, peach, papaya, apricot, strawberry), pretty nice vanilla, very nice diesel like. Medium body, ABV is hidden very nicely, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a very tasty beer. Orange Julius! Addictive! Milk Shake!

Got in an IP trade with hoptheology. 16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 8/20/21. Pours very hazy golden/orange/amber color with a 1 finger dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing and some streaming carbonation on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big juicy strawberries, vanilla frosting, cake batter, tangerine, peach, passion fruit, pineapple, mango, honeydew melon, citrus peel/zest, pine, wheat, white bread dough, cream, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. More cake/frosting-like in the aromas than the flavors, which are more IPA centric. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Slight fruit tang/tartness. Medium carbonation and medium body. Balanced creamy/silky/grainy malts and lactose; sticky hops, and some resins in the mouthfeel. Increasing resin dryness, with no hop/fruit astringency. Nicely soft feel. Mild increasing warmth of 7.5%. Wish the frosting/cakey aromas transferred into the flavors more, but this was definitely an amazing style example. Awesome Azacca and Huell Melon profile balanced with the strawberry, lactose, and vanilla. Very juicy fruit/hops with some dankness; and a nice lactose/oat backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. Loved this a lot.

16 oz can, canned on 8/20/21, into Bearded Iris stem.
"No one enjoys stale cake...drink fresh!" Ha.
Semi-juicy hazy gold with a creamy head of 2 fingers. Recedes to a fingernail and leaves lots of wet spots up the sides.
Aroma is massive angel food cake with strawberry topping. Some natural sliced strawberry joins the team as well. I'm getting slightly minty notes from the glass, very much like "Strawberry Ice Breakers Duos" (I'm a patron). Pretty nicely done.
Oh yeah. Flavor is there. Hoppy goodness with hints of light dessert. Some lovely papaya and strawberry hit first, followed by a touch of mint, some parfait cup and/or angel food cake, and then it finishes on lively, bright grapefruit peel. It's incredibly balanced and nuanced. Very tasty. Reminds me again of the Strawberry Ice Breakers Duos, just without the sourness.
Feel is juicy and carbonated, two most prominent features, followed by acidity and very light alcohol heat. Medium bodied.
Overall, really fantastic out of the box brewing. If you're expecting a sweet IPA or a milkshake piece of garbage, you'll be very disappointed. This is how dessert IPAs should be. Lots of hops with dessert influence. I like this one a lot. Really glad I bought a 4 pack.

Lots of tart strawberry with an ample amount of sweet malt to give it the "upside down cake" moniker...
Wasn't sure how this was going to work but it does. It is not too sweet...not too tart...strawberries are prominent and taste fresh and slightly tart...
This is really well done.. I would buy this again and will when it comes back around....very tasty beverage...

Nice thick pour with a little bit of head. The color is orangish red tint. The smell of a ripe strawberry jam that was made with very little sugar. It’s stands just a hint of tart from the strawberry jam taste and a little bit of vanilla cake on the back end. The IPA is very faint, but it has more of a of triple IPA than anything, but it’s always been one of my favorite from Southern Grist. I love the thick shake few it carries with every drink. I highly recommend this one to anyone that is looking for something unique.

Opaque dog puke tannish orange-red with a thin fuzzy off-white blanket.
This has a slight aspiriny astringency to the hops, but is otherwise quite tasty. The tingly medium body has a firm carbonation delivering strawberry juice and candies with a touch of dankness.

Thanks to Buck89 for this one.
Can marked "7/31/19 YOU WIN" Yes, I did.
Pours a highly turbid burnished gold with lots of swirling floaties that tinge pink when caught in the light. Frothy white head rises assertively, slowly retreats. Good retention, scattered clumpy lacing.
Smell pounces. Sweet, fruity strawberry , vanilla, cream, lactose. I'm awash in strawberry muffins, but then maybe a creamy strawberry shake. No, it's closer to strawberry muffins. Rich, smooth, filling my nostrils. Wow.
Taste goes forward with a more fruity, jammy start. Then the creamy vanilla smooths it out, tames it a bit. A slight bitterness comes around with a hint of lemon and faint pine. But this show is all strawberry. At times, it goes from a muffin to oatmeal filled with strawberries and thick cream. Quite an interesting take.
Mouthfeel is rather full style, but it works with the whole package, really moving the flavors around.
Overall, this is quite tasty, and a very unique play with an IPA. Would I drink it regularly? No. But, I would love this on a semi regular basis. Southern Grist really made this taste like a strawberry baked good.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a one pint can on November 9, 2018. Double IPA brewed with lactose, vanilla beans, and strawberry puree. Smooth, creamy and delicious.
